The small pet store I work for sells a line of “small animal” toys that are absolutely adorable.

The package doesn’t say what type of wood so I looked them up online and they’re made of pine, which I guess is a pretty common wood to make toys from in the pet world. My questions is, is pine really safe to chew? I tried researching some on my own and found conflicting answers ranging from “yes its perfectly safe” to “no, it causes enzymes in the liver to not function properly”.

Does anyone else use pine toys and is it safe?

These are the toys. I found a picture without the brand name because I was worried about advertising.

Pine is perfectly fine to chew. It is safe in its solid form, it is only dangerous when used as shavings. Pine is one of the best woods to chew.

Hey Katie (hello Holly!), I was told untreated pine was all good too! I don’t use wood toys for Henry only cause HE doesn’t play with them. And why would he when he can chew on my grown up toys – MY furniture! Dam bunny! ha ha ha… Cheers, Andi.
