Hey everyone! I am choosing a new cage for my buns, since moving back in with my mammy and pa to complete my last year of uni, I’m finding that Barney and Belle are spending more time in their cage than they used to.

So i want to buy them a bigger cage their current home is 2 floors connected by a fairly steep ramp,  and both cages are 100cm wide. My possible cage options are

This 3 floor one is 120cm, and 3 floors … what do you guys think? There is also an identical 120cm double story one.

I definitely want them to have that extra length, but what do you guys think of how it looks etc? 2 floors or 3?

For those who dont know, Barney is a medium angora x lionhead bun, Belle is a 3 legged lop who is fairly large – big long legs and very tall!!

        Thanks in advance everyone xx

I personally think the three floor one but i’m not sure if your bunnies are bonded (i’m new to the forum). But they do look a little small for those sized rabbits. I reccomend if you have the space to attach an x-pen to it this way your rabbits could stretch their legs a bit more. You can keep all their food, water dishes etc. in the cage but you can just have a little play area for your bunnies. Hope I helped!

Yes they are bonded the x pen idea isn’t really possible at the moment, they have the run of the conservatory/their pen in the garden when I am home, but when I’m not they have to be in their cage their cage at the minute is a slightly shorter (in length) version of the two storey one, and I want more for them! Thanks xx

You’re bunnies sound very lucky to have you as an owner : ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems you let them run around a lot so the cage should be fine.

You’re a wonderful person for wanting the best for your bunnies!

I would really suggest building a condo from grid cubes instead. Two sets of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/SEVILLE-Storage-System-Modular-Organizational/dp/B00HN7X1OK) should give you enough panels for a bigger cage than either of those models. You can add one or two levels, or jumping platforms and still have the important floor space you need for a lot less than one of those store cages.

Just tie the panels together with zip ties and cover the shelves (made from the panels) and floor with cheap short fibre carpet or whatever flooring your bunnies prefer. There are loads of ideas in the habitat section on this site!

Aw thanks Mocha, they are rescue bunnies so I want them to have the best life possible after their rocky start
Pipje – i think that is a better plan, having done some research! Thanks

Since both cages are the same size, I think it depends on much your buns like being at higher levels. For example my bun’s cage has a 2nd level, but he doesn’t really use it much since he likes being at ground level. He only hops up to be closer to the treat container and beg for them lol. So if they’re happy with their current two level cage, I’d stick with that.
