        Hi

So I went to the grocery store to buy some veggies for theo and when I got there they changed everything around and it was very complicating and I never knew which veggies were which :/ and I bought some romaine lettuce (I Think :/ ) And when I went to check out the grocer put it as green leaf lettuce and the grocers don’t really know that much about veggies and I dont either But I was wondering what is the difference between them and if there is one is it ok to give him Green leaf lettuce? Thanks

Green lettuce is generally less crispy, more “leafy” and the heads are rounded, the colour generally a somewhat dareker green than romaine. “Heads” of romaine are oblong and a ligher green, darker at the tops and whitish towards where the leaves attach to the “stem”,

Bunnies can eat both types, but many rabbits have a soft spot for romaine – taste in lettuce does vary a lot with the individual rabbit though. In general, deeper green colours signify more micro-nutrients and anti-oxidants.

The one lettuce you should avoid feeding bunnies is Iceberg.

They romaine is more stiff and the leaves are oval shaped and long. Green leaf is less stiff and has leafy leaves.
My bunnies prefer the green leaf, but they like both.

Okay Thank you sooooooo much! That is very helpful! Since He is going to try the green leaf lettuce should I only give him only a little and gradually give him bigger amounts? Or since he has already had lettuce before do I have to do that again?

This lettuce ok to give them for a while, but I wouldn’t continuously give it to your buns. Romaine lettuce is the best for growing rabbits

Both are perfectly fine to give. One thing I have found is that romaine is “hardier” than green leaf. I try to only grocery shop once a week, and the romaine will stay fresh the whole week whereas green leaf wilts a little quicker. So this is something else to consider…

And I regularly have to tell the cashiers what I’m buying! Even things that I think are pretty obvious like parsley, some of them still ask “Uh… What is this?” Or I’ve bought cilantro before then I look at my receipt later and they put it in as parsley…

Romaine and Green Leaf are both okay for rabbits to eat. I personally feed my rabbits romaine though. It just depends on your bunbun’s taste buds!

They look quite similar, they might have rung it up incorrectly.

I always have to tell the cashier what I’m buying, it just makes it go by quicker

Ugh… Yeah, if they are trying to charge me more, I definitely clarify what I’m buying. If the produce is the same price either way, then it doesn’t matter as much.

Lol, I get pre-cut-up lettuce blends like you would make salads with. My rabbits have preferences. Nessie definitely has a favorite blend (endive, radicchio, escarole, romaine) and Ollie has preferences too though I haven’t quite nailed down his favorite yet. Romaine is a good go-to lettuce for sure but I try to give them a variety. Green leaf is just fine too. It looks like it has “softer” leaves which my bunnies seem to prefer over the crunchy ones.
