        Hi all,

I haven’t posted on BB in quite some time. A lot has been going on lately. Anyway, back to my main concern…

It’s after 1am. I went to feed Chester his dinner (pellets) as I do every night before I go to bed + give him his bedtime treat (craisin). Chester didn’t come running for his treat as per usual so I knew something was up. He’s not in pain, he’s still charging around his room, digging his blankets, throwing toys everywhere etc. Just refusing food. As he was hopping around I noticed he had poop stuck to his bottom and tail. I’ve cleaned it the best I can. But I can’t get it all off. He’ll have a butt bath in the morning (I’ve done this before, he doesn’t stress. I don’t soak him, he will be dried well etc etc). I believe I know what has caused it. I gave him an oxbow timothy hay cake to try for the first time. He loved it. But, as that is the only thing that he has had different, I believe his tummy hasn’t handled it well.

The thing I really want to know is what do I do in regards to food? Do I let his stomach settle? Do I force feed him CC? Do I force liquids on him? He was fine this afternoon, eating hay etc, so he hasn’t been refusing food for long. I’m just at a crossroads as to what to do. Plus it’s late, and I’ve been awake since the early hours of this morning so I want to make sure I get advice from other bunny slaves so I don’t end up making things worse

Ooh, hard to say. If he is not eating anything, he really should get to a vet ASAP. Are you sure he won’t eat anything?
What is a hay cake? If it is just hay, it shouldn’t really have caused the stomach issues.
I would see if you can give him some baby gas drops (simethecone) to curb any gas he may have. It could be the early stages of stasis too, but there really is no way of knowing without a vet. He does need to eat something, can you give him some veggies or special hay? Is he pooping?

When did you last see him eat something?

I was told to give Velvet some papaya to try and get her eating again, +, papaya supposedly has enzyme’s to break up block. I your bunny isn’t eating if you can get him started on papaya, then to parsley, anything to get the tract moving.

It worked for Velvet about 2 years ago, she wouldn’t even drink water.

I wouldn’t force critical care at this stage. How’s he doing today?

If they get messy poos, you can pare other foods back and encourage hay to help regulate things again.

It looks like those hay cakes are 100% hay. Had he had Timothy hay before?

I didn’t “force” nothin, I gave some slices of papaya, she started nibbling, (thank God), then, started next on parsely water and hay, then on to bigger and better food! I hope Chester is feeling better.

                      Hi Velvet

I wasn’t criticizing you or what you wrote. My suggestion was for Chester’s Mommy about feeding the Critical care product.
