We keep our bunny’s liter box clean….i use 2 scoops of the Feline pine, and clean it everyday with fresh pine…what i have discovered is…i can’t stand the smell of it even when it is clean…worse when it is not…and is it normal to need to be cleaned out every single day or is this excessive? Also…lets talk poop…most of it actually makes the liter box…put a small percentage he will poop wherever the mood strikes….Normal?…..is there anything i can do about the smell? I don’t think he is peening anywhere except the box..but it is horrible…will this be better after neuter..anything else i can try that won’t smell as bad as the pine?

He’s hormonal right now, correct? Boy bunnies let out some nasty stink. LOL And the missing the litter box here and there could very well be territorial. Time to get him neutered!

He has an appointment on april 16th. He Never misses the box as far as urine but he doesnt seem to mind to much pooping outside the box…and he isn’t quite 3/12 months i thought he would be to young to be hormonal. I guess he is but i don’t see any other signs..he is still sucha sweet little baby…my only complaint is i can’t stand the smell of his liter

Unneutered bunny smell can be strong (mainly the pee), that’s for sure. I tried a few different litters and settled on Carefresh Natural (they also make one with baking soda in it — it’s fine but the Natural and the Ultra work fine for us). I could be wrong, but I always thought pine shavings were absorbent but not necessarily for oder control? We dump the litter boxes every day (could probably get by with scooping our the used parts) and clean them with a mix of white vinegar and water (um, probably not often enough so I won’t say just how long we go!). No smell problems at all there.

I don’t think regular poops are supposed to smell very bad (?). Once in a while Moshi will leave a cecotrope on the floor and those *really* stink! Luckily that’s rare.

The other smell issue we have is a scent gland thing — if anyone goes into the buns’ room without announcing themselves, Moshi will startle and open his scent glands. Skunk smell for about 5 minutes! I’ve even had my female buns do this too.

Oh, the stray poops? Get used to it! No matter how litterbox trained your bunny is, you will always find an occasional little present!

If the jewels are there, then he is “old enough”. LOL Boy bunnies usually hit puberty between 3 and 4 months.
