Hey everyone, I got a dehydrater as a gift couple days ago and I was wondering if I can give some dehydrated fruits to Flash. We recently got her some banana treats from oxbow and they look identical to dehydrated bananas just wondering if it’s the same and if it’s
        Safe for her ?

Absolutely! I *think* the same rules apply for quantity. Don’t give anymore than you’d give fresh. I’ve never dried fruit for my buns, but Meadow does like the store bought banana chips!

We have a smoothie maker, so Meadow lucks out bc she gets little bits of whatever we’re having… 🙂

Yup! Just remember the sugar is more concentrated, so small pieces.

Ok! So give less! I never remember that for some reason!

I do. I cut the “core” on pinapples into tidbits and dry them, and thin slices of papaya. The enzymes in them are good for bunnies, help prevent hairballs.

Enzymes are heat sensitive and are destroyed by heat, I air dry mine (live in desert) so I don’t have to worry about it, not sure how warm a dehydrator gets. The fruit is still good for them, but the enzymes in those might be deactivated.

If you cut them into appropriate pre-dehydrated sizes they will be the right size when they dehydrate. My rabbits go crazy for dehydrated bananas and they last much longer than fresh ones.

A dehydrator is a great thing for a bunny-owner! You can dry lots of stuff for them, not just fruit. F ex when some veggie/herb is in season and sold really cheap, you can buy a bunch and dry and store. If you dry it through and store it air-tight and dark, you can make a nice supply for winter-use when veggies often are both expensive and rather dull. (Depending on where you live of course, if you have seasons.) My bunnies love their extra treats of dried dandelion, raspberry leaves, ground elder, apple-leaves, apple-peel, chamomille, mint etc

As Linette points out, the heat musn’t be too strong or much of the good stuff in the veggies is destroyed by heat. But you can modify it by placing the veggies higher up, further away from the heat-sorce if your dehydrator doesn’t have a thermostat.

I would love to have a food dehydrator. A lot of dried fruits and veg from the store come already seasoned or have added preservatives. Mine bun enjoys dried bananas and herbs.
