Hey i’ve just had one of my bunnies (Daisy) at the vets. She is a dwarf lop with quite a big dewlap and her chin under the dewlap was a bit scabby and the vet said it could be because she is overweight and it looks a little bit infected so he gave me some anti biotics to give her.

He weighed her and she weighed 3.7kg but when I asked what her ideal weight would be he said maybe half a kg less. Is this correct?

She also keeps getting a pooey bum which we keep having to clean and from what I have read online this may be because she can’t quite get down there to get the cecals (I think thats what they’re called) because if it calls off her bum she will turn around and eat it.

        Thanks for replies in advance

        Adam

sometimes dewlaps also get infected if they drink from a bowl and the fur stays soggy.

Less pellets, more hay, and non starchy veggies for treats (or greens) rather than fruit and she should slim down naturally. Make all changes gradually.

Also trying to get her more active will help slim her down. You do want to do this slowly though – very slowly.

Cookies is a little bit chubby, too. Since Cookies doesn’t eat a lot of pellets, I wonder if it is because of the alfalfa hay? I am slowly making he amount of pellets I give him smaller since he spills most of his pellets, anyways. I am also giving him more greens. He absolutely LOVES romaine and parsley. He doesn’t really like cilantro, but he does like the stems. But, Cookies is only 4 1/2 months (he turns 5 months on the 18th) so I hope that his chubbiness goes away before he turns into an adult.

At 4.5 months I would not limit his diet too much… They pretty much require unlimited hay etc at this age for growth.

The thing is that he doesn’t eat his pellets. It’s so weird! He spills them and throws his bowl.
