For those of you you have read my other topic, you know how my mom feels about animals and veterinarians. For those of you who haven’t, she doesn’t like the idea of bringing animals to the vet, even if they are in a life or death situation (unless it is visible such as a scratch or something.) So, how do I convince her to bring him to the vet in the future? Many bunny owners on here have said that part of owning a bunny is bringing him the the vet. But my mom just simply doesn’t believe in that. Maybe it is the fact that she doesn’t like animals? I don’t know what it is. Please help and thanks in advance! Also, please don’t say “drive” or “pay for it myself.” I have only $6.60 in my wallet and have no source of transportation except my mom. I’m also a bit too young for a job OR a car. Oh, the joys of being young.

          I SO understand! Try this:
          1. Go to your mom when she is in a good mood, and explain that you love your bunny very much, and you think that he needs to be taken to the vet. If she says something like he’s just a rabbit,(don’t get impatient about that, btw, she may not know how cool it is to own  one) tell her how you feel about him. How he is your pet, and so on.
          2. Remind her that rabbits are prey animals, and are especially good at hiding illnesses, so they don’t get targeted. You have to keep a close eye on them. Above all, BE HONEST and BE CALM.
Lying is just going to backfire, and if your mom sees that you are mature enough to care about your rabnit, and to talk quietly and respectfully, she is a lot more likely to listen.

Thanks! I’ll try that when my mom comes home! I’ll tell you about it tomorrow morning. She is gonna come home late today.

In this situation, I think it would be helpful if you set up an emergency fund using your own money. If you get money for anything like birthday, holidays, doing chores, babysitting, whatever then you can put it toward the fund. That way you can show how mature and responsible you are because you are willing to save your own money to pay for your bunny if need be.

I am currently saving the extra change around the house and the spare change my mom just puts on the table and bringing it to the grocery store to turn it into money. I have $6.60 right now and will ask my mom for more money when she comes home.

Doing something to earn that money might go a long way.

I’m asked my mom for allowance and she said I have to keep the bunny patio clean and she’ll give me $10 every Friday. So $40 a month, $480 a year. I’ll have a little box full of the emergency money just in case I lose my wallet like I have done in the past.
