Frappuccino is now 3 and not neutered. The reason why he is not neutered is because his previous owner didnt. (Btw i got him in November of 2013) I have decided to set a date for his neutering but i still have some questions.

        1. How long will it take for him to recover?
        2.  I usually take him places in a 24in long cage without a top opening but if you unlatch it the whole top will come off, so is that a suitable carrier to take him in?
        3. Will i be able to pick him up?
        4. What should his diet be?
        5. I looked on the site and saw that they do actually spay/neuter rabbits but if the spay and neuter rabbits do they have to be certified or could they just be a regular dog and cat spay and neuter vet?
        6. Will he be in pain?
        7. Will he be able to hop/walk around?

I really need him neutered because he likes to leave him dropping everywhere in my room. Although he never pees, bites, nor sprays i still believe he should be fixed.

        Thank you for you time!

1.It should take him less than a week to heal to the point of being able to be let out, etc.
          2. That should be fine.
          3. You should try your best to not pick him up for a few days, but after that he should be fine.
          4. His diet should be as normal as possible except he should always have his favourite foods, at least until he starts eating again.
          5. Dog and cat vets CAN neuter rabbits, but that doesn’t mean they should. Make sure your vet is very rabbit savvy before you let them touch your rabbit.
          6. He will be in a little bit of pain, obviously, as he will have just had an operation. He should be given pain meds, and the pain is only temporary.
          7. He will but you should limit him a bit right after the neuter so he doesn’t hurt himself.

Keep in mind that neutering will probably not fix all of the marking. That is just something bunnies do.

Licorice is 1 week and 1 day post-neuter and doing great.

How long will it take for him to recover?

Licorice needed a solid week before really seeming much better. Even now – I’d say he’s much more subdued then ever. (Anyone know – is that possibly a new normal? )

I usually take him places in a 24in long cage without a top opening but if you unlatch it the whole top will come off, so is that a suitable carrier to take him in?

I have a carrier from my cat that I use.

Will i be able to pick him up?

Not for at least a few days.

            What should his diet be?

Normal – lots of hay. Have some enticing treats on hand!

I looked on the site and saw that they do actually spay/neuter rabbits but if the spay and neuter rabbits do they have to be certified or could they just be a regular dog and cat spay and neuter vet?

I had to find a specialized vet.

            Will he be in pain?

Licorice definitely seemed to be in pain the 1st 3 days. Poor little thing. Shaking – sighing – etc. Very upset acting. By day 4 – much better. By Day 5/6 – seemed pretty much back to normal. Incisions looked good for him – not too much swelling/bruising at all.

Will he be able to hop/walk around?

Poor Licorice waddled/crept around for a while. He started hopping again by day 3/4

Your boy probably won’t have any problems. Most boys don’t. Some are in a bit of pain or lethargic but all the boys I’ve had neutered come home wanting supper and then they just sleep for a while and are themselves. You do want to make sure to keep a close eye on the incision area. Check every day for swelling, redness or bleeding. Some bunnies will overgroom or pick at the area and you need to watch out for that too.

Gosh…I know how stressful this is for you. I just got my little dude neutered on Tuesday morning. I almost opened up a new thread but I saw yours here so if I may ask questions here too, hope you don’t mind.

BJ is a dutch dwarf that I adopted from my ex-roommate’s little brother, who bought him at a pet store. I went to the vets of the OC Humane Society because they do A LOT of spays/neuters everyday whether they are cats, dogs, rabbits, etc., and the vets also own the private shelter next door which is no kill! When I first got BJ, we went for our first checkup there and the vet we saw was really sweet and tender with BJ…

I’m just worried because it’s day 3 and he hasn’t pooped a lot today (maybe a dozen puffs total), although he did eat most of the butter lettuce/broccoli/apple salad with a banana slice on top feast I made him when I first woke up. He also was excited for a minute after he realized I was awake and did some head binkies but was trotting in his usual circles very slowly. I also noticed since yesterday evening that there’s this hormonal smell, his usual pheromones smell but a bit stronger, and he also tried to hump my foot a couple times last night. I checked his sutures just now and last night and everything looks okay I guess, his little parts are very black and purple–bruised?? They looked like shriveled raisins on the first day but it looks like they are “full” and round today. What does that mean?

Also, I didn’t put him in his condo, I dismantled it a couple months ago because he was totally ignoring it…I now know that I should have put it back together before the surgery to acclimate him to it, so he could have a closed off area to himself. I put it back together and put him in there after we came home but it did cause him a great deal of distress; he was pacing back and forth so I let him out. He hasn’t gone back in there since. His favorite place to go to is on the bed (or under) but he can’t jump right now (I basically just live here in my little dude’s apartment, lol).

So are all these things “normal”? The lethargy, pain, and lack of poops today, this being Day 3. How much longer until he’s comfortable and pain-free? He was also drinking his urine on the first day of surgery although I put his water bowl next to the potty pad, I’ve never seen him do this before!
