I have heard of people using it around the house with no problems to bunnies. I wouldn’t recommend putting it in their cage and litter since it could cause respiratory problems if inhaled.

Wouldn’t Revolution do something for the mites?

I’ve used it on rabbits for fleas. Not great results, I think that fleas are a bit to hard bodied for it to work well. It was amazing on chickens for lice, which are soft bodied.

For mites, which tend to be tenacious, I found I had to use stronger stuff. Pyrethrin has worked well on several species of furred animals I had. Because it breaks down easily in the digestive system it is considered relatively safe for rabbits and cats which lick their fur.

I’ve even used it on mice and rats with no ill effects.

This is pyrethrin NOT permethrin which is a synthetic and toxic version. Pyrethrin only.

It’s easily found at pet shops in various forms and concentrations for any animal from birds and hamsters, to dogs and cats.

You can also get a powder you can work into the fur.

I used the liquid version, spraying the fur and bedding, and wiping down the cage etc with it.

I also regularly wormed my rabbits (they lived outdoors at the time) with ivermectin and that also helped curb biting parasites.

You will have to apply it three times, about 5 days apart to address the mites as they go through their life cycle.

If your rabbit has free run of the house, you can also spray rugs, furniture etc with it.

Hmmm…not sure about the pyrethrin stuff for rabbits….this is what medirabbit says about this:

Honestly if you think your rabbit has mites you should consult a vet – Revolution is safe for rabbits but must be purchased at a vet’s office.

yeh I would see a vet, and then clean everything well and anything that can’t be cleaned should be turfed. I’m not sure but you could google how to clean your carpets and that sort of thing. I think the key would be to clean everything continually while treating so she doesn’t get reinfested. I wouldn’t treat without for sure knowing it’s mites, it could possibly be another skin condition and I think the diatoms could be drying, so without knowing for sure I’m not sure I would attempt treatment without the vet prescription.
