I know babies are supposed to have unlimited hay and pellets but he is not a huge hay eater at all. I have tried alfalfa, timothy, and plain? looking hay the lady gave me when I bought him. Today he’s had some VERY loose pudding type cecotropes, a few very tiny hard poops, and a few normal ones. He’s eating the pellets, drinking, and munched on a little bit of hay when I fed it to him. It’s enough not normal poops to worry me and watch him closely. He’s been getting unlimited Mannapro, all the hay above, and I’ve been slowly introducing veggies according to HRS guidelines. In the past 2 weeks he’s had romaine mostly, a little parsley and mint, and a small amount of mustard greens. About a 1/2 cup a day maybe? Hard to judge but he’s not getting tons, I’m not sure on his weight but he’s a Holland lop so small. He is getting neutered April 24th, so I’ll get his weight then, I don’t think a regular scale would even register his weight now.

I’ve been reading like crazy trying to figure out if I should cut out the veggies, cut back on the pellets to hopefully get him to eat hay or what to do. From what I’ve read the teeny poop is because he’s not getting enough hay, and the pudding poop could be a few different things. Last night I ordered Oxbow young rabbit food, and a bunch of different hays recommended on here. APD timothy gold, and Oxbow orchard, and oat. They don’t sell Critical Care so I’m going to order some of that from Amazon to have on hand.

Any advice to ease a worried bunny mom? Thanks for any suggestions and for reading!

Well a rabbit is only supposed to have 1/4 or 1/2 cups of pellets for every 5 lbs each day. Maybe you should cut down on the veggies… You should introduce veggies at 12 weeks of age (Or so rabbit.org says)..
          Hope this helps!!

Did the vet do a fecal exam during his first check up? My first thought is that this could actually be Coccidia (a parasite).

His diet sounds fine. It does sometimes take babies/teenagers more time to start eating enough hay. How many pellets does he get per day? “Unlimited” isn’t actually unlimited… Confusing I know. At his size, he probably shouldn’t be eating more than a 1/2 cup per day tops…

Ah the definition of unlimited helps a ton! I will measure it out now, but I don’t think he’s eating more than 1/2 cup a day, the dish is about 1 cup and I have to refill it every 2-3 days, I’ll double check though since that’s just a guess at size. His poop seems back to normal, really not sure what was going on yesterday but it took all day to fix itself. He hasn’t had a checkup yet, I was hoping to get everything done at once when I took him for his neuter but I might just call and schedule a checkup for sooner just in case. The variety of hay will be here Monday, hopefully he loves one of them and I can get some more hay in him. Thanks so much for the replies!
