Ernie came home from the vet today after being neutered this morning. He seems pretty perky but the fur around his eyes is very matted and damp seeming. Is that normal? I just gave him some metacam. My biggest concern though is that his ankle has missing fur and some reddish bloody (but not bleeding) cuts. I can’t tell if he did this to himself–or did the doctor inject the anesthesia here and that’s why it looks that way? I just want him to feel okay again! Wish I could figure out how to post pics.

Yes. They put an ointment on the eyes to prevent them drying out during the procedure. It can make them look miserable but it will become cleaner with his normal grooming. It’s good he’s acting perky. : )

I’d say its very likely it’s where they put the needle. It’s on the inside of his leg? Are you able to call to confirm?

Thank you so much Jerseygirl! You’ve really put my mind at ease so much. I didn’t think I’d be able to get through to the vet today (Sunday) but they said that his ankle is where they put the catheter. What a relief! Thanks again

Happy to have helped. : )

Hope he continues to recover well.

I’d dearly love to see pictures of him. From your avatar, he looks the colouring that my bun Jelly was. <3

That’s normal for their to be bloody spots/bruising in the leg after anaesthetics or IV. Bindi came home once and his legs was so bruised, I felt so awful.

Hope your bun continues with the good recovery.

Thanks. I’m surprised at how perky he is. It’s almost like he doesn’t even know he had surgery! He’s much bigger than he was when he came home with us, so once I figure out how to get these pictures up I’m going to post them right away
