Rini has now joined her sister Usako at the rainbow bridge. she was the last remaining of our three 2004 bunnies. its $*&!ing hard to lose 2 of them within a span of 4 months. she was only 7 weeks away from having her 10th birthday.

yesterday morning she was alert when we got up but around 10am she started shaking, and we noticed she was incredibly dehydrated and listless, the emergency vets ran bloodwork and her creatinite and potassium levels were as much as 4x the upper limit. they put her on iv fluids and kept her overnight.

when the vet called in the morning he said she had pooped and peed plenty, but still was not interested in eating, they were going to run her blood again at noon. she must have blown a clot into her kidneys because the levels spiked even higher since yesterday. her kidneys were gone. shana & I both went in this afternoon to say our goodbyes, and i held her in my arms rubbing her cheeks. its like she knew what was happening because she gave me a few kisses on my hand to say ‘thank you for everything’  before the vet attached the anesthetic syringe to her iv

I’m so very sorry, Mike. What a lucky bunny she was to have spent her life with you and Shana.

Hugs LHM – I’m so sad that your Rini has gone. Your rabbits are so lucky to have you caring for them – Rini and Usako are now keeping each other company and talking about the good times they had with you.

Oh I’m sad to read this. The last of your “Originals”. My heart felt condolences to you and Shana.

I enjoyed seeing Rini and Usako as babies in the video you posted recently. Rini particularly struck me as a little mischievous or a smarty-pants for some reason. Like there was a lot going on in her bunny brain.

You really did give them everything. As they well deserved!

It sounds like Rini had a long happy life, but that probably doesn’t make it any easier. She was a lucky, beautiful girl.

Oh Mike I’m so sorry…I’m just seeing this now. :'(

Rini was so blessed to have you and Shana for her carers. Ten years is a fantastic age, although I know we always wish we could have more time.

Thinking of you both and sending (((((((((hugs)))))))) xx

And I lit a candle for Rini:
