I noticed when my rabbit poops around my bed to mark territory, the poops are more moist and warmer than the ones in the litter tray. Now I’m wondering how hot or cold should the ideal rabbit poop be? Do you stick a thermometer inside each poop to take a reading?

          LOL! Sorry.
It could just be that when your rabbit is out, he doesnt eat as much hay, which could cause the moistness. They could be warm because the body temperature rises while they exercise, but I don’t really know. My bunnies sometimes do this too. As long as normally there is regular poop, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Is he neutered? They might be special marking territory poops.

Maybe they are warmer & moist because he is doing them right next to you, you see them straight away? And the one’s in the litter tray have had a chance to dry and cool down when you see them? Dunno? Good/interesting question though Standard_Procedure. I have to be honest – I felt/feel stupid ‘fluffing’ my Henry’s hay (to encourage him to eat it), but I would draw the line at checking the temp of his poop! LOL! I reckon all’s ok too. Cheers.

I imagine fresh poop is warmer than poop that has been in the litter box awhile – I don’t think anyway there is anything to say what the rabbit poop temperature should be….

When my rabbits mark with poop there is an oily sheen on them, which makes them “moist” compared to regular ones. Maybe that is what you’re seeing and fresh ones would be warmer than old ones. I don’t think anyone measures temps of poop lol
