She currently doesn’t look much like one but my breeder did assure me she’s definitely a pure bred British Giant and will eventually grow huge.

The photo with her ears up are on day 1 when I got her.  I never lock her in the cage but she is kept in my bedroom most of the time. She’s about 12 weeks old now.

I’m going to wait until she’s about 6 months old before I make any accusations against the breeder. I think the only way to tell is seeing if her weight is right to be a British Giant. If at the end I find out I’ve been lied to, you can bet there’s going to be a civil lawsuit. I’ll hold a grudge and won’t let it go. I’ve seen mini lops and their coat is a lot more dense than this rabbit, who has a thin smooth coat, so that’s a good sign she’s not a mini lop.

French Lops are large lops so maybe that is what she is. Regardless if you love her it doesn’t really matter the breed but I can understand why you would be upset at the breeder since she is supposed to be a breeder – not like a rescue or shelter who have no idea what the rabbit is.

It would be interesting if it would hold up in a civil lawsuit – doesn’t seem to be worth the cost though if the cost of the rabbit is only whatever you paid :~) A lawsuit could be more costly than it’s worth and I’m not sure if anyone would see that it caused you any damage – you’ve given her a good home and that’s all that counts.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a rabbit go from lop to up-ears though plenty of them go from up-to-lop as they mature. I had a French Lop once which is in fact a large rabbit as Sarita said. She was very sweet!

I agree with the others I’m afraid.
If her ears were up when you got her and have since gone down then I’m fairly sure they’ll stay down.

How strange for the breeder to say she’s pure bred if she’s not though – what would be the point? Weird.
I know it will be upsetting if she’s not what you expected but I hope you won’t mind too much!

Oh, and also, if it helps, my girl is a French Lop (my avatar). And my boy is a Continental Giant, which is a very similar breed to British Giant.

If you want to see some pictures to compare there are some on my profile I think.
She came to us with ears up and they flopped down, as happens with lop babies, and his ears have always been up.

What about the other rabbits in her litter? Did their ears drop down? Other than asking the breeder for a partial refund I’m not sure there’s anything else you can do. Also I wouldn’t bothering filing a lawsuit, it’s going to end up being a drain on your time and money. Both of which should be spent with your lovely rabbit lol.

I would on,y be mad if I paid more thinking it was a British giant. Vs what I would’ve paid for the French lop. If she ends up being a French lop I’d ask for the difference in price back. But I’m sure you’d be so much in love with her that you wouldn’t want to return her. French lops are cuties. But big.

Looks like a French lop to me. I love the flopped picture! I’m not sure what a lawsuit would accomplish. I mean, yeah, I would be upset if I paid a bunch of money wanting something specific and was intentionally deceived. But I would think that if you wanted your money back, then that would mean giving the bunny back. I would think you would be too attached by the time she’s 6 months.

On an unrelated note, what flooring are you using for your NIC cage?

Yeah, I don’t think the breeder was truthful. Though as long as she gave you a healthy lovable rabbit, it’s probably not worth a lawsuit.

Hey Standard_Procedure – I was wondering, have you had any more thoughts on what breed she is? Are her ears still lopped?

It’s just carpet that I’ve sprayed with bitter apple. Didn’t want my bun to slip on plastic surface or develop spray-legs from lack of traction on the floor. Also carpet is strong enough to be the floor. There’s the occasional accident in the cage so it’s best to have carpet tiles on top of the normal carpet. Carboard with towels on top also works. Carpet tiles allows me to easily cut it to size if I need to adjust the cage’s size.

I haven’t used all my NIC panels yet. Could add an extra floor or increase the width if I wanted to.
