I posted about this about a week ago. I will try to be as detailed as possible.

Samson is a male flemish giant, almost 1 year old, neutered in October.  He is litterbox trained.

About 2 weeks ago I noticed a spot on the tile by the fireplace with one small poop. It was definitely urine. After that I started noticing small spots on the wood floor, sometimes quarter size, some about the size of a dime. I can’t say 100% if they are pee.  However the other morning there was a pee puddle in the kitchen. It was not in a corner it was just in the middle of the floor.

I had brought a female bunny home a week and a half ago but kept her upstairs in neutral territory in a bedroom. The only time she was on our first floor is when I set the crate down. I could not get them to bond and so I took her back to the rescue

I took Samson to the vet the morning I found the pee puddle. Urine analysis came back pretty OK with some sludge. She told me it can be that he has too much calcium and to try to get him to drink more water even though it seems he drinks a TON….I fill his water bowl up twice sometimes three times a day…..but he is a 11lb Flemish.

Yesterday I cleaned the floors with vinegar and water.  Last night I noticed two puddles on the floor. One that we are pretty smelled like urine, again not in a corner and the other spot did not smell like urine.

On to today……. I was laying on the couch and petting Samson and he was nuzzled in my neck for awhile while I was petting him. When he got up I noticed a huge wet spot on the couch where his butt was. I thought it was pee but when I put a paper towel down it did not turn yellow, and it did not smell like urine at all. I even had my boyfriend smell it! This is just too weird. I don’t understand what is going on.  Why is he peeing randomly? Does the fact that it isn’t in a corner matter? And why does it not smell like urine sometimes????!!!!

Is kale too high in calcium to give him? He LOVES it and I give it to him daily along with other veggies like romaine, cilantro, dill, spinach, and parsley.  He is on a timothy based pellet by Oxbow and of course he has plenty of hay. He is eating fine and his poops look fine besides the random odd one.

Sorry for all the questions but I am just bewildered as to what could be going on!!

No, it’s not about the kale. Did the vet do an x-ray to see if there was sludge in his bladder? Did she do any sub-q fluids or give you any medications for him?

No she did not do an x-ray but said if it continues it would be a good idea to do an xray. She said she doesn’t like to just give meds out. She is a very well known vet in the area that has a lot of experience with rabbits. Just adding that in there because I don’t want you to think I took him to a random vet

No she did not do any fluids. When I took him in he did not have anything in his bladder. I brought him home, she gave me a syringe to collect the pee from his litter pan which I kept empty while I was waiting.

If she suspects bladder sludge then the random peeing could be that he cannot control his bladder.

Ok I will take him back and see about an xray. Is there a logical reason why sometimes it smells like nothing at all?

You say he drinks a ton of water, that would be a reason it sometimes doesn’t have any smell.

Poor guy. So should I do what the vet says and keep giving him water, washing the veggies to get him more water and wait and see or should I schedule an xray right now?

Thanks for all of your help! He obviously is having trouble holding his bladder and I don’t want him to be uncomfortable!

I’m not sure an X-ray would be a bad idea because perhaps you can nip a bigger problem in the bud now. Don’t know how big your water bowl is, but that sounds like a whole lot more than my 10 or 11 pound Giant Chin. I did see someone else say their vat gave their bun a bunch of fluids to flush out the bladder. Hope the urinalysis shows something. If it were an older animal I’d wonder about kidneys but he seems awfully young for that

Hmm, I really don’t have much more info to give you than what’s already been said. Please keep us updated on what the vet does/says… I hope you can get this figured out…

Poor Samson! I would have guessed a possible uti, but I haven’t heard of sludge in the bladder before? Would an X-ray be able to show that? What causes that I wonder?
