Hi everyone.  I’m just curious what to do about pellets.  Noah is about 6-7 months old now and basically my feeding routine is as follows: in the morning (anywhere from 8am-10am) I give him about 1/4 cup of pellets, which he eats happily & entirely.  Then around 12pm-1pm I give him another 1/4 cup for lunch, along with either basil or cilantro, depending on what I grab that day. I give him a decent amount of that, probably about 5-6 pieces (however you want to measure that) and he eats it all.  Then he relaxes throughout the day, but has free range in my bedroom so depending on the time he may run around a bit, so he definitely gets exercise.  Then for dinner between 5:30pm-6:30pm, another 1/4 cup.  Of course he always has hay readily available as well.  Any thoughts/opinions on this?

Also, I should add that when I say “a cup” I mean like a paper cup I use to serve with (usually found at BBQs and stuff.. you know?) not a measuring cup you will find in the kitchen.

Since he is young, it is fine that he gets lots of pellets, but pretty soon you are going to want to start giving him 1/4 to 1/8 cup of pellets once a day, and increase his greens to 2 cups per 5 lbs of body weight.

oh okay awesome, thanks so much. and what would you suggest? 1/8 in the morning and 1/8 in the evening with say, 1 cup of greens in the morning and 1 in the evening?

Between 1/8 and 1/4 cup per DAY of pellets in one or two feedings, about 2 cups of greens and, free choice hay is what you want to work gradually toward feeding per 5 lbs of rabbit.

What breed is he? How much will he weigh full grown?

Only because Henry is free range, I give him both his 1/4 cup (I use an old kitchen measuring cup) of pellets and his 2 cups (I bought a dish/bowl with the cup size measured on the side) of veggies at night to try and keep him busy and out of mischief (yer right! ha ha ha) while we are asleep. So it’s up to you how you would like to feed it, or how your Noah may like to be fed. Some BBer’s for whatever reason feed their bunnies like me, and other’s feed up to 3 maybe 4 times a day….. My boy is a mini lop weighing around 2 kilo – if your bun will grow to a simular size this may be a good guide, but not being aware of Noah’s breed or size could make a difference, so let us know or check that out first before you commit to a new feeding routine. Cheers berrinmichelle.
