My rabbits currently live in a large x-pen, but I would like to give them a lot more time outside of the cage. I have the house mostly rabbit proofed as far as cables and valuables but I am concerned about their safety when it comes to myself or my boyfriend leaving or entering from outside when they are not in their cage. What tools and tricks have people used to make sure their rabbits don’t get out when they are not supposed to?

I’ll be honest, I’ve never had a rabbit even try to get out that has been free range. You will find that even though free range they will find an area of the house that they gravitate towards and are comfortable with. I think as long as you are diligent too you won’t find them escaping outside a problem – they are most likely scared of the unknown anyway.

My rabbits never even try to go outside. As long as the door isn’t open for extended periods of time and you are careful, you should be fine.
If you wanted, you could build a little pen with a door around each door, so when you come inside, you are in the pen and need to open the pen door to get out. But I dont think that’s really needed.
