Gosh, I feel like I just can’t catch a break here. Whether its Harry, or Tibbs, one of them is sick.

Over the past couple of days, my bun has been pooping less. Eating the same, and still pretty active, but poops are pretty minimal. His teeth desperately need to be done, but he didnt take to the anesthetic last time, so we need to wait it out until next time. Which is bad because he eats little to no hay which I think could perhaps be causing the backup, as it is molting time.

Either way… my bun still eats, and still poops, but not a lot of poop. It has been roughly 10 hours since a single poop has been dropped he’s had one cecal and ate it, but no poops. And he poops like a machine.

Do you think this is the beginnings of GI stasis, os perhaps woolblock that can be helped with some pineapple juice and pumpkin puree?

Without hay he is missing the fiber he needs to keep his gut working. It may be gas, or another reason for stasis. He really needs the hay.

Have you tried chopping the hay in a food processor, blender, or with scissors to make it fine enough for him to eat? Even if you basically puree it with just enough water to make it grind up nicely, it will still give the fiber he needs, won’t help teeth that way but, he already has issues there so, it’s more important to get fiber into him.

should I try syringe feeding the ground up hay?

Is critical care the same thing? Or is it more pellet-y?

No, don’t force feed him the ground hay except one bite to show him what it is. If he ate hay before, he should eat it on his own. If he is on critical care and has to be fed then, something is definitely wrong and you need to see the vet. Critical care does have a good amount of fiber so if that’s what you are giving, he should have that instead of pellets, then try offering a little ground up hay to see if he will eat that as well. If not don’t worry if he’s getting critical care.

Bunnies don’t get constipated. If he has been more than twelve hours without a poop, take him to the vet ASAP! It sounds like stasis. feel his tummy and if it is hard, he may just have gas, but if you should still take him in after twelve hours no poo

Critical care is supposed to be complete but you don’t get the grinding action you do with hay-it’s a powder you mix up with water. You could try giving some to see if it helps while you wait for a dental, I don’t see any harm.

I would go buy some nice alfalfa and try to entice him to eat some hay.

Completely agree with this. I would feed some critical care to make sure he’s getting enough food to keep his gut moving until his dental appointment.

I agree with everyone else. Also, what type of hay are you feeding him? Maybe you should try a sweeter type such as orchard grass to get him to eat more
