        Hi all,

Albert is getting snipped tomorrow! Based on all the valuable info on previous threads, I think I’m pretty good with how to prepare and what to keep an eye out for. I only have one question left.  I know I need to restrict his space for a few days. I have two options. I have his regular pet store cage that is attached to his very large pen. I could keep him in there with the door closed, or I could use his store bought exercise pen.  It is about 3ftx3ft.  He can run around in it as it is what I was using in the classroom when he was in there. He can binky in it as well.  I was thinking of just placing it inside his large pen. He wouldn’t have a hidey/covered spot then as he likes to jump up on things. What are your thoughts? The cage is super small but definitely restricts movement more. The pen, not so much, but is better than his whole pen.

Thanks guys! Wish us luck tomorrow!

        Kate and Albert

Personally, I didn’t change things too much. I just let them be in their normal pen. You could take out anything they jump into if super concerned. They honestly healed so quickly, it was never an issue.

I think in a smaller cage they’re more likely to get restless and more active to be honest. Just my opinion. Others might have felt happier having them more contained while not at home.

          Good luck tomorrow! {{{Albert}}}

Thanks Jersey! Do you think it will be fine then if I just take his maze haven out and then close up his cage so he doesn’t need to hop in and out of something? He wouldn’t have a place to hide, but he rarely does anyway. He likes to nap out in the open…or should I just not worry about it and he will hop/jump when he is ready?

Hey Kbana, how did it go???? Um, I didn’t change anything for Henry either. When we got home I just opened the carrier and let him out and left him to do his own thing. I worried that if I mixed things up or restricted him, that would stress Henry. He was quiet for the first day, but then bounced back the next and didn’t have any problems at all. I thought if Henry was sore, he would work out it wouldn’t be a good idea to be strenuous, and if he was, he would only be if he felt well enough. All was good here. Hope Al is recovering well. Let us know….. Cheers Kate.

Well we are home. He hopped around his pen right away so I took that as a good sign. He still refuses to eat or drink anything. Even his tastiest veggies or a carrot won’t do. he has hopped in and out of his litter box and has pretty much been sitting in it since he got back two hours ago. I took his maze have out and put a blanket and a hot water bottle in there with him but he’s shown zero interest in either. I’m hoping he starts to at least nibble some hay by bedtime or I think I might be too worried about him to go to work to work tomorrow. How long before your buns started eating again? I also have pain meds for the next three days so that is good. Fingers crossed he doesn’t fight me when I give the to him.

Henry didn’t eat, and if he did it wasn’t much the first 12 – 16 hrs, so I wouldn’t worry just yet Kate. Just make sure everything is available and it sounds like Al is doing well so far, so I’m sure he’ll eat soon, once his appetite is back. If he doesn’t eat by tomorrow that could be a cause for concern? But till that time comes don’t worry, it may be for nothing.

(Your just looking for an excuse to have the day off work!!!!). Ha ha ha ha….. cheers Kate.

Ha! Andi, you totally nailed me. I just don’t want to go. LOL. Thanks for the reassurance. I know it should be fine, but I am prone to worry anyway so I just want him to start eating right away selfishly so I can feel better. haha. Stinker!

Yep, I know Kate – we all do that (worry), no matter what anyone says or how reassured we are. And lets be honest – Albert is gonna cause you some sort of concern? If not eating, it will be something else! Can’t win! ‘Stinker’s’! big time! Lol…..

Glad all went well. Sounds normal so far. Usually they’re still groggy that first night.

Thanks guys! I’m hoping that I wake up to some nice poops tomorrow! I ended up taking the half day tomorrow so I’ll come home around noon to be with him. My vet is only in office on Tuesdays and Thursdays so if I were to wait to come home and something should be amiss late tomorrow night I would need to drive him over an hour and half to an ER for buns since she isn’t there on Wednesdays. This way I won’t be so insanely worried tomorrow. I actually hate to take another half sick day but I know I’m just going to be a mess tomorrow worrying anyway! Well, at least I can pretty much be sure that he will be just fine since I ended up taking the day. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t right?

Ugh. Well I didn’t sleep much due to worrying about the stinker. He produced 2 poos and did urinate, but is still refusing all food. I am hoping that by the time I get home at noon today he will be eating better so he can start pooping! Otherwise I’ll have to take him in I think. He doesn’t seem to be in pain, no grinding and he is moving around quite well. Jumping in and out of his litter box doesn’t seem to be problematic. He just sits in there though, like a statue most of the time, which isn’t normal for him. Again, we’ll see how he is doing today when I get home. I hope I’m panicking for nothing!

Hi! I am glad to report that Al started eating Tuesday night. Phew. I talked to the vet and she said that it was OK to keep an eye on him until Wed morning before bringing him somewhere. He is back to his normal self it seems. Yay!!! His incisions look good too as far as I can tell and we had our last dose of pain meds today. Hopefully he won’t need any more. Now I’m dreading the post neuter hormones so fingers crossed! LOL!

Aw thanks LEL! I put his maze haven back in his pen today and he is happy and running/jumping again. He is his usual spunky self and seems to be more interested in us which is nice. Just waiting for the crazy bunny to kick in. haha!

Great to hear he’s so well! My bunnies didn’t go crazy after their neuters, so it’s not an absolute MUST. Always good to be prepared though =)

I had to syringe-feed Bam after his neuter because he wouldn’t eat the day after. But once I did that he perked right up. Yohio on the other hand started eating the minute he came home. Same procedure, same vet, different bunny =)
