So…. as the title says I am moving cross country. I am moving from New Hampshire to Phoenix in august and I am planning to take Thump Thump, Pooh Bear ( a golden retriever collie mix) and Tuckaboo’s (my jack Russell pug), 8 guinea pigs (not mine but I do sometimes play with them even though they are my step moms) and a couple goats and sheep. Yes we live on a farm literally. So I have had some family issues and decided to move in with my dad at the end of the school year (June) and he told me that he and my brother were planning on moving to phoenix in august. So… my questions are how can I transport a bunny in a car safely, How can I make the trip less stressful, any tips? He wont have to ride in the car with any other animals because we are taking three cars. Anyone else moved across the country with a bunny? Or better yet anyone move across the country with two dogs and a bunny? I am SUPER worried about all the animals and how moving is going to go. Another question I have is when moving from a place with summer, spring, winter, and fall to a place where they only have summer is there anything I can do to help my bunny with the change? Any tips on keeping him cool? How can I tell if he is dehydrated during the car ride and how can I tell if he is having heat stroke in Arizona? And is there anything else I should know that about moving to Arizona with the animals?

where in phoenix are you headed? the whole metro area is like a 50 mile diameter

i drove from chicago to Mesa, Az in june 2011 with the buns in a travel grid cage in the back of a ford escape with the seats down.. what type of car do you have? most SUV’s with seats down will hold a 3x2x2 grid NIC cage. but it will NOT fit thru a hotel room door, so you will have to drive non-stop to keep the A/C on. or just sleep in a highway rest stop parkig lot from 11-6 or so when it will be cooler. throw a blanket over the pen so they cannot see out to become disoriented.

keep in mind that was only june. august is monsoon season and will almost certainly be above 100 by 9am every day + relatively humid (30%+ is brutal at those temps compared to june when its like 5%) which also makes the temps fall much slower at night. its not unusual for the morning lows to be 90. you need to make sure the a/c is already on to 80 + ceiling fans running when you arrive. also pick up a little floor fan to point right on your bun. fans will stay on 24/7 from mid-march-mid november.

many areas you need a certain size acreage to have farm animals. barns also need to have some sort of cooling system. anything smaller than a horse runs a huge risk of becoming coyote or mountain lion treats if not locked up at night. and there are also fire ants, diamondbacks, and bark scorpions. scorpions are much more widespread in the areas built around farmland. even if you have some grass in your yard, its not like a midwest lawn where you can just lay down on it and relax. everything bites, stings, or skewers you. dogs not used to being around cactus are also at serious risk for winding up in the ER if they run thru one like it’s just tall grass. you need to keep a short leash at all times cause they will take off after a cottontail or quail
