        Hi

I’ve just joined the forum and I am first time rabbit owner to my little girlie Bella <3 She is a mini lop and is 9 weeks.

I wondered if you could please help me out…?

Last night I ended up having to phone an emergency vets and take her there about 2am. I let her run about the livingroom freely when I am with her and she was being her usual friendly and hyper self when suddenly she lay on the ground and her nose began to twitch insanely quickl and her heart looked as if it was about to burst out her chest. I lifted her up and she was just went limp.

I took her to the vet and by the time I got there she hopped out the carrier and seemed absolutely fine? Today also she has been her normal self. The vet didn’t advice me on anything as she looked ‘fine’ when he saw her. He gave her a injection of antibiotics.

Any ideas on what could have happened?

        Kirsty xx

Assuming she is eating, drinking and her droppings are normal, it may simply have been tht something startled her that you didn’t notice. Once in a while rabbits will react like that to being startled.

My most timid one, Pizza, does that heart racing, shaking like a leaf thing over mice and water bugs if one gets in the house and she sees it. I give her chamomile (1 TSP dry) with her pellets. It is mildly calming and, she likes it. It may not help but, maybe it’s enough to keep her from having a heart attack over mice and bugs.

Watch her, if it happens again try to get a video for your vet. It may never happen again so just watch to see if it does. Now if it gets to be a regular thing, then there is probably something else going on and, the vet needs to figure it out.

Yeah, she’s been drinking, eating and doing the toilet fine. That’s why I got so worried when it happened, everything was so normal.

Will definitely keep an eye on her thank you for your advice x
