My Biddy bunny has a bloated tummy today and I’m not sure if this warrants me calling into work to make an emergency vet trip or not.

She’s a 10 month old lionhead just recently spayed a few weeks ago. She hasn’t had any health complications since I’ve had her so I don’t know how to deal with this situation.

She’s eating and playing and digging as usual and the bloat seems to be the only thing out of the ordinary. Is there anything I can do to figure out what’s wrong and if I can help her at home? I definitely don’t want to make things worse or to ignore it because if anything happened to her I don’t know if I could take that. Any other day and I would take her to the vet at the drop of a hat but this happened at a bad time financially, as these things usually happen.

Any advice/thoughts? Please help, I’m so incredibly worried.

How can you tell it’s bloated? It is good she is eating.

You can always try simethicone to see if that helps…it won’t hurt.

Her tummy just feels much harder than usual and she won’t really let me touch it. Also she’s not only eating, but eating enthusiastically which is probably good news right?
I don’t have simethicone in my house right now but I could definitely run out and buy some. Any suggestions for where I can get some and what brand names to look for?

Well, I think as long as she’s eating, pooping and being active she sounds fine. I think most rabbits just don’t like you touching their stomach area.

Any baby gas drops at any drugstore would be fine.

I would say make sure she is pooping. if she isn’t, take her to the vet ASAP. good luck!

She’s eating her cecal pellets but I haven’t noticed any regular poop yet today. She’s still eating and drinking but her tummy still feels bloated. I got some simethecone and gave her some of that and I’ve been massaging her tummy as much as she’ll let me but I’m not sure if it’s doing anything. I have noticed in the past that she tends to sleep and lounge around during the day so it’s not out of the ordinary for her to go a while without pooping (she usually becomes a poop machine in the evening) so I’m not sure what to make of this. There’s a 24 hour emergency small animal clinic on my university’s campus though so if things to take a turn for the worst I can call them. But for the time being I think I’m just going to wait this out. Thanks for your advice everyone!

                    This is good she’s eating!

For others reading this, any brand of drops is fine. Names brands are Mylicon, Little Tummies, etc… But store brands (CVS, Walmart, etc…) are fine too. It isn’t dangerous to give if you think the rabbit has gas, even if they don’t. It’s a good thing to have on hand.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I gave her some simethicone yesterday and after a little while she started pooping again and her tummy started going back to normal. She seems pretty much normal today so it looks like whatever this was passed!
