I figured that I ought to make up for my earlier sad post and I haven’t been on in awhile so Smudge has been very insistent that I need to update you all as to his latest antics.

Let’s see- I had to go away for a week for a family vacation. Yes, had I actually been thinking realistically I probably should have waited to get a bunny… But then it wouldn’t be Smudge.

I’m in the middle of a nasty divorce and live alone right now so I don’t have much money or friends who might be able to help.

I asked one friend and she said that she could. I showed her everything and left her a two page note explaining everything again…. no, I’m not obsessive… Well I realized I was going to feel really guilty if Smudge had to spend most of his day in a 2ft*3ft*3ft dog crate. Because he’s out most of the time I haven’t bothered to get a bigger one. Anyway, the guilt started and I knew how offended he would be, so I thought I had a brilliant idea.

I would turn the kitchen into the bunneh room while I was gone. Kitchen doesn’t have a door on one side, so I fashion a bunny blocker by using a 2ft high, long card table, two dining room chairs which he couldn’t get through, and just for good measure, I placed the metal broom in such a way so that it was inside the kitchen and would fall if the Bunneh tried to escape, hopefully making him scared of the gate. I brought most of his toys like his tunnel and his little pink house and his favorite window seat table. I covered all of the baseboard with either cardboard or furniture already in my kitchen, left a clean litter box on top of his cage for a midweek switch out (she didn’t want to have to deal with litter.) and flew across the country.

Now I was smart enough to build the bunneh room a couple of days prior to my leaving, knowing I needed to test this out. The only think he did while I was home was leave one little poop on every thing of his I had brought into the room which was mostly just hilarious. My poor friend had no idea what she was in for . Naturally, Smudge being Smudge he escaped as soon as I left and my poor friend couldn’t catch him to put him back in so she called me, there was nothing I could do so I told her to keep my bedroom door closed and move the “gate” The living room is bunny proofed but I didn’t want him in there chewing on the rug or peeing on my furniture, so he was safe but I was so irritated. Of course he peed on all my furniture, he peed on half of his toys so I had to through them away (thank goodness I thrift all of his toys) pooped anywhere but his litter boxes (he’s definitely litter trained) and refused to come anywhere near my friend whom he had met several times before. Seriously Smudge, not many rabbits have it as good as the ones on this forum do and a WHOLE kitchen isn’t enough to keep Bunneh happy!?!?!?!?!

He made it up to me at least- the second I came in the door he flew around doing binkies before he came to rest between my feet until I petted him. I was floored, he’s not that affectionate but apparently my leaving for a week has changed that. Just before I started writing he was up on the couch beside me for big, long scratchies and cuddles.

For some reason, the only gate that keeps him out is the back piece of a wooden futon held up securely so that I can keep the door open (light and heat) without the pooper going and covering my bed with little piles.

On an even more hilarious note- some of you have seen the bunny window table I made, but if you haven’t it’s basically a two level wooden side table. So I sewed corduroy fabric around the middle level and covered half of it with black fabric so he could have a cave. You might be asking yourself why this is important to the story. It totally is. The middle level is Smudge’s favorite place to nap, the window is a single pane so he stays cooler, he can watch the goings on outside, and it’s big enough he can totally stretch out.

Well one day he sacked out, it must of been a deep sleep, and he rolled over and fell out of the table onto the floor. I started laughing at the most ridiculous sleey/stunned expression on his face before he did the thing cats do where they go away somewhere and pretend they did it on purpose.

I had to giggle.. I’m reading the forums before I’m all that awake today, and I have a rabbit named Smudge. So was thinking… when did Smudgie register? lol

All of my buns love staring out the windows. Surveying their kingdom, I suppose!

Sorry to hear about the divorce, thats rough *hugs* Smudge will make it better!

haha, you’re a true bunny slave. I don’t know why the singular poops seem so funny sometimes, but they are! Like a just-so-you-know this-is-mine marker.

Smudge sounds like a funny like a funny little character. I’m glad you have him to keep your spirits up.
