As many of you know, I just go my bunny Snickers. I’ve had her since Last Thursday, so I’ve had her for about a week and she’s probably around 9-10 weeks right now. Since she was home, she seems to eat a lot and poop a lot. Her box has to be cleaned everyday because of it and she is 100% litter trained – and not spayed! (It only took a 1 hour to train her!) Anyways, she poops so much and I’ve seen lots of youtube videos about litter training and they clean the box every week or so! I use gerbil bedding for her litter just because Im scared she’ll eat the bunny litter and hurt herself. Is this all normal? Also, should I be limiting her hay or pellets? When can she her first vegetable?

I need to do my trays daily except where they have access to more than one tray… It’s amazing how much poop one little bunny can produce… As long as the poop is normal and in the tray I wouldn’t worry too much….
Take advantage of the bounty and plant a vege garden

Do not limit her hay or pellets at this age. She needs all the food she can get to grow up strong. Rabbit litter is fine for her, most of it is paper or wood, which just means extra fiber. It would be better for her than gerbil bedding.

Oh yeah…lots of poop is normal as long as it looks normal too. They seriously are eating and pooping machines! I’m not entirely certain of the exact time to introduce veggies… It’s been so long for me and I don’t want to tell you wrong. But I think it is best to start with romaine lettuce at least.

If you use a litter screen the poop can be dumped without dumping all the litter, saves money But yeah they poop a lot… a lot a lot… and more. Lol I use feline pine litter, or yesterdays news. I dump it about once a week and dump the litter screen once a day, then scoop the wet spots of litter as needed.

I forgot to mention, that my “Gerbil Bedding” (I own 4 gerbils) is white care fresh bedding.

Care fresh bedding is fine. And yes, bunnies eat and poop LOTS. They are built with a digestive system that needs to be constantly moving. Lots of stuff going in and out. Lots of healthy, round poops means a healthy bunny. The time to worry is when there is less poops.

Yes, as everyone has said, that is a healthy rabbit. Like other grazers, rabbits need to constantly have something working through their digestive tract. Do not limit any feed until they are 16 weeks old, then limit pellets but NEVER limit hay. At 12 weeks you can begin introducing fresh greens. Start with 1 TBS a day, if that is okay after 3 to 5 days, add another TBS and, keep going like that until you get to feeding 2 cups of fresh greens a day.

If you see any soft poop while introducing greens, remove the last TBS you added, wait 3-5 days and try it again, if that green causes problems a second time, find a different green to give them. Not all rabbits can eat all greens but, most can have most greens. Parsley, Basil, clover and leaf lettuce are good first greens to start with. Kale, cabbage and other cruciferous greens should be the last ones you introduce but, should be introduced at some point.

Yup, they are little poop machines! ;o)

I thought my mini rex pooped a lot… but when we brought our lop home… HOLY COW! That bun could fill a litterbox!
