I have not been on BB in forever and have not kept you guys up to date on all my bunnies. I am so very sorry about that.

Some of you may know in September 2013 I rescued 5 bunnies from the shelter 4 of which were on their last day and were to be put to sleep that night.  The four that were related were split in half.  The boy bunny and one of the girls went to another foster and were spayed/neutered immediately.  I kept the two who I thought may have problems down the road, Alice and Aurora.  Alice scans which may be a put off to some potential adopters…They can see that as a “flaw” not knowing much about Red eyed bunnies. Aurora had only three legs…Well one of the legs likely had been torn off by a predator or something and never healed properly.  Aurora was a master at hiding things.  I didn’t know she had something wrong with her until about a month ago when I decided to bond the girls with my Marley (because I am a failed foster mom…).  I had the three of them in the bathtub together and Marley and Aurora seemed to be getting along superbly!  They were like instant best friends…. When Aurora was hopping around and exploring the bathtub I noticed something was wrong….She had a MASSIVE lump on her shoulder where she only had half a leg. I hadn’t noticed until it was golf ball sized because I thought she was getting a cute dewlap…boy was I wrong….So I made a vet appointment and took her it….She ended up having to have the whole leg amputated and the abscess removed.  The vet had warned me that abscesses can return and there is not much they can do about them…. At the vet there was apparently some miscommunication and Aurora didn’t have antibiotics for 2 weeks. I finally realized she needed them over the weekend and went to pick them up on Sunday from the rescue.  (the vet is not a bad vet…he is excellent…there was just a mishap).  Aurora had an infection now by that point.  I cleaned it and gave her her antibiotics….On Wednesday, February 27th, 2014, I took Aurora back to the vet….The vet looked at it and decided to take the staples out since it had been over 14 days.  While he was taking the staples out he noticed it was pretty infected so he decided to keep Aurora there so he could clean it.  I left my sweet girl at the hospital that day….  I went home and took a nap…. I got a call around 2:30 pm but I didn’t hear it.  The vet left a message for me to call him back.  Normally if all went well he will tell me all that in the message and I would call back but this time was so different.  His voice wasn’t the same and he just told me to call him back. So at around 3:00pm I called back.  When he picked up the phone and I heard his voice I just knew something was not right.  He told me she didn’t make it.  He told me they tried CPR and she was just gone….  Ultimately, Aurora’s abscess had returned and spread incredibly fast killing her.  She died at the vet.  I have not had the courage to go back yet.  I need to pick up my carrier but it’s just horrifying that she is gone.  She was only about 9 months old….She was so young!  I am so mad at who ever let her arm get torn off before I got to her.  Why are people so cruel?  It’s just not fair that she is gone…Leaving her sissy behind…It boggles mine and my boyfriends minds because just the day before Wednesday we were watching her be super cute and super relaxed. She did the cutest flop and zonked out!  I had never seen her get so relaxed before.  She closed her eyes and she was even dreaming.  She was just being so adorable.  I cannot get over that she is gone.  I know I hadn’t officially adopted her through the rescue (even though I was the one who bailed them out of the shelter) but to me she was mine…I loved her so much.  She was such a little fighter and she acted like nothing even happened to her.  I just can’t believe she is actually gone.

It’s just a reminder to always check your bunnies even if you don’t think something is wrong….they could be hiding it!

        I love you little Aurora….

Binky free with Freddy and Monty up there!

You touched the hearts and lives of many.

              Oh no.
You probably don’t know this, but I really wanted to adopt her, but I just couldn’t make it work. She is very special, and even though she was only here for a very short time she will be sorely missed.
Binky free Aurora, you are loved. Watch your mummy from the rainbow bridge.

Oh Amy, I am so sorry…

Aurora was such a lucky girl to have you as a Guardian angel!!! I’m so sorry that her life was cut short, but she was so loved by you and it was/is an amazing thing you did for her and the others…

I wonder if (when you’re ready) you could talk to the rescue about getting official adoption paperwork for her, even tho she is gone. In my mind, even tho it wasn’t “official”, she is and will always be YOUR RABBIT. You are the one who saved her, cared for her, and you are the one grieving her loss.

                Binky free, Aurora…

                Hugs, Amy…

Oh no! I’m sorry Amy, this makes me so sad. I like Beka’s suggestion. It sounds like such a sweet idea.

I just want to offer my condolences again for the loss of Aurora. She was obviously a very special bunny and so very lucky to have you in her life. She’s whole again and a beautiful angel in Rainbow Bridge, until you see her again.
