I found two of my buns (lionheads) with really short sharp nails on their front paws; this has never happened before. Some were so short I didn’t cut at all. The nails on their back legs as well as all of my third bun were normal. Even the cuticle area wasn’t quite normal; from the paw, the entire nail was shaped as a sharp V. The last I cut them was about 3 months ago and they were normal. Typically I have it cut every two months (one month is definitely too short).

If it matters, these two buns do have separate health issues. One is over drinking with excess pee in random places (and on meds) while the other one sometimes has soft poo and/or cecotropes (have not seen the vet on this because I’ve never been able to collect fresh samples).

it sounds like perhaps your buns may have slivered the nails somehow. Are they on a wire flooring of any kind? Or do they have a toy or go somewhere where they might catch their nail?

Hm, wouldn’t that affect just the bottom of the nails? Or does the nail get removed?
They only have carpet and tile flooring. There is a NIC cage and x-pen but the bars are not sharp. I sometimes hear them flying/falling off the second floor of the cage but that’s happened many times before.

It’s possible that the bun chewed or accidentally ripped it off. One of mine broke his nail off somehow and it was at least 3 months before it was long enough for me to cut again. Who knows how they do this stuff sometimes. I wouldn’t worry about it if it’s not hurt or bleeding.
