I was wondering if anyone has any fun “games” that they play with their bunnies? I want to play around with them, but I don’t want them to be scared of me… Idk if this is dumb but whatever lol!

It depends on what your bunny likes to do. Some bunnies like the knock things over. Play a stacking game with them where you stack and they knock over. Some bunnies like to toss things. Hand them a toy and let them toss it. Repeat. Some bunnies like to run around. Play tag with them by “coming to get them”. Bunny usually runs away and then returns to give you a nose bonk. Some bunnies like to do puzzles and figure things out. Get a toy that you hide food in (Teach N Treat or similar) and let them go to town.

So find out what your bunny likes and then create a game based on that.

Personally, the way I “play” with my buns is to sit quietly in their pen, reading, working on my laptop, etc.. They come over to investigate me, and just sitting has let me observe a bunch of cute moments with my buns. I like just being near them, and I hope they like me being near too . However, I have heard some rabbits may like to play “fetch” ie, rolling a ball towards them, and they roll it back…

Well yes, bunnies do just like to explore their owners. I was just trying to think of more interactive things that some bunnies (depending on what they like) would have fun doing.

Those ideas are awesome LBJ, I’m totally trying some of those!

If your bunny is really bright and food motivated, you can try clicker training too.

All of those and, some like to steal things and play “Pack Rat Wars”. I place something my rabbit can carry between my feet or under my knee sitting cross legged on the floor and pretend to be too busy reading or looking out the window to notice the rabbit taking the object. Then the rabbit will stash the item nearby, I crawl over and wait for the rabbit to not be looking and take it back. Rabbit then chases me back to my spot and waits for me to not be looking to take the object back again. M&M and Cotton both love that game.

Ohh you gave me an idea. I’m gonna buy some wood blocks or maybe Jenga and stack some so the bunnies can knock them over. That’s one of their favorite things! That and chewing on my nice wooden table

I used to play chase-me with Spockie, but a bunny is better when you run away from them first, saying Chase Me! and hope they follow, then turn and let them run away for a few feet (I’m gonna get you!) then reverse and run from them again. They take being chased as scary, like from predators, but chasing you is clearly a game to them.

I also play “keys” with Sammy. I got some baby keys on a ring at Walgreens, really hard, colorful plastic. The key ring is the perfect size for her to lift with her mouth. She flings or drops them, I try to snatch them from her and she either lets me or pulls them away. Then she will push them toward me so I’ll do it again. I steal them from under her feet, rattle them and let her grab the ring and pull them out of my hand. repeat.

If she wants to play, she rattles the keys until I come over.

I realized as I got to know my bun better that I didn’t have to pet him super gentle, he kinda liked having his fur roughed up so when he’s being particularly spunky I’ll rub my hands in his fur really fast and he usually sprints off to binky and he’ll return for more mussing. sometimes I’ll “wipe” my hand down his face (ears to nose) and he will snap his head back up and give me an attitude filled look and he’ll binky away then too. This obviously requires a certain attitude or personality of your bun but if you notice he/she doesn’t mind being roughly petted it is worth a shot. My bun loves it! Also I’m sure your bun will kinda teach you how they like to be played with!

Bindi is not much interested in toys or playing. Olivia loves her baby stacking cups. I got them at Toys R Us. I pretend I’m hard at work building something with them and she has a great time knocking it over. She also enjoys when I fan out a deck of cards. She will pluck all the cards out, a couple at a time until they are all gone.

Another fun toy is one of those cat treat balls. I put pellets or small dried fruit and she has to roll it around to get the treats out. Although, she is pretty clever and usually ends up getting the top off.

Mine are usually pretty interested when I do Pilates so I consider that play time. They come over to investigate and run under me when I’m doing shoulder bridges or other things that create temporary tunnels. I actually have to pay close attention to where they are when I’m rolling down to make sure I don’t role down on them.

Unfortunately, Dobby also likes to try and nibble the Pilates mat, which is not so great.

I need to get some wooden blocks and see if they like knocking them over. Good idea! Dobby ate the plastic stacking cups I tried.

He is apparently a connoisseur of rubbery, plasticky non-food items. 🙂
