Hi everybody. Just wondering has any insight, I have a 18 month old male(Bailey) and I’ve just noticed that he has lost a bit of hair around his private area. He is fine in himself and there is no redness, flakey skin or anything else visible.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks Steve.

Welcome. It may just be shedding but it’s really hard to know just based on the information you gave. I would just say that if he is otherwise fine then it may be nothing to worry about. If you feel it is getting worse then it’s time for a visit to the vet for a physical exam.

I’m assuming he is housed indoors where it’s warm. A picture would help but, just going on that, I’d say he shed the hair over his testicles (right at the base of his tail) for cooling reasons. A lot of intact males will do that when it’s about 75 to 80 where they are housed. (Cooler means better breeding success for a male rabbit)

If he is fine otherwise and, there are no flakes or signs of mites, I’d watch him and make sure he stays okay and doesn’t loose a bigger area of fur, but I wouldn’t worry too much.

              The testes (balls) are hairless.
