I noticed that recently that the fur around my Bun’s eyes have been wet and it appears that he’s been scratching his face more than usual – has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering if its a major concern like if he has an eye infection or something? I have been putting him in with pine bedding and I heard that for some bunnies this can cause them to have eye problems but I’m not sure what to do! Help?!

I would get your rabbit to a vet. It sounds like it could be conjunctivitis. Anything that causes the rabbit to scratch at their face needs attention, they can scratch an eye and, injure themselves. A vet can give you something to soothe the eyes and stop the scratching before there is a major problem.

Also, do remove the pine, it can cause problems for many rabbits. Use paper or fleece for bedding and paper or corn cob for litter.

I agree with BlueMoods – it truly could be anything which is why a physical exam by a vet is a good idea.

Also do remove the pine as suggested by BM as well.

When my rabbit’s eye started tearing we took her to the vet and she had an ulcer. It is painful so you should probably make an appointment. You can tell if you bun is in pain by gently lifting his eyelid. if it looks too pink or the veins look red and swollen, he is in pain from something. Good luck

(BTW, my bun’s ulcer looked like a little circle in the middle of her eye that was sunken in.
