I have two Flemish giants (a boy and a girl, both 5 months old), who were bonded when I got them, and they have been living peacefully together for a few months.

Boy bunny (Hoss) was neutered on Monday, and after briefly trying to cage him separately, we put them back in their pen together (he literally tore down barricades to get to his lady love). They were fine until this morning when I noticed that the girl bunny (Pfeffer) seems to be acting more aggressively towards him, and trying to hump him. (She is not neutered yet…her appointment is in March (I didn’t want to have two healing bunnies at once)).

I separated them before I went to work because I didn’t want to risk anything happening when I’m not there, but I’m not sure where to go from here.

Has anyone had anything like this happen to their bunnies?

Sounds pretty normal. One of two scenarios: 1. She just happens to be hitting bunny puberty herself and is asserting her dominance or 2. He smells funny from the vet and she is now reasserting her dominance.

Edited to add: I know they want to be together, but if she is hitting puberty then you are at risk of an accidental pregnancy. Males can still have viable sperm up to 4 weeks after their neuter.

            I agree with LBJ.
If I were you I’d get her fixed now, and they can recover together.

Neutering/spaying changes the bunnies scent. Humping afterwards is just normal adjustment. But, as LBJ says, your girl is at risk of getting pregnant if they stay together. A spay is better to do first, since it stops any chance of pregnancy – males can still get a female pregnant for up to 4 weeks after being neutered. So, they’ll need to stay apart to avoid that risk, until she’s spayed.
