Unfortunately it is with a sad heart that I tell you Shredder did not make it through the night.  He couldn’t even walk or hold himself up at the end, he fought so hard though.  We took him to the vet this morning they will do a Necropsy and cremation, we chose an urn with the Rainbow Bridge on it.  Although he was just a baby and we had only had him 6 months we loved him so very much and we’ll just have to see him there.

Thank you all for you help and guidance but I may not be on here often except to try to offer to others my very small insight and brief experience.  I do not foresee us getting another bunny very soon.  Until we are done with our grieving process or hopefully we can adopt one in need because we have so much love to give a bunny.  This has all been so extremely hard but we know he is no longer in so much pain.

We just heard from the vet, he went in early to perform Shredder’s Necropsy. He found two little hairballs lodged in the opening of his stomach. They had caused his stomach to rupture. Although the vet was sure that these were not present from last week when he was ill, he just believes that because Shredder was still recovering from his GI Stasis he didn’t have the strength to digest the hair properly. He did say that there was nothing more we could have done, the only other option would have been to do abdominal surgery that he would’ve only had a 10% chance of survival. Shredder is off to cremation now and hopefully he is in so much less pain than dealing with a stomach rupture, especially since we were force feeding him.

I am so sorry. You never gave up on him, and I am sure in the short time he was with you, he could feel loved and cared for. I know it hurts, just focus on the great times you had with him.
(((((binky free Shredder))))) and (((((hugs))))) to you

I’m so very sorry for the loss of your precious bunny. It is obvious you loved him very much. It does not take very long for us to fall completely in love with them. He was certainly very lucky to have you. You did all you could, sometimes, unfortunately, bunnies can be very sensitive to things like this. It is heartbreaking. I have been there myself.

Give yourself time to grieve and heal and then I hope you can, in the future, in Shredder’s memory, open your heart and home to a bunny in need. ((((Hugs to you and your family)))))

                    My condolences about Shredder.
Please stay on BB as long as you like. I had found BB just after losing my first bunny, Spockie, and was a member for over 8 months before I got Sammykins. I made so many friends here by then that the cheering was heard around the world when I got my new bunny. It’s a great place to just see bunnies and learn more about them.

Thank you all so much for your support.  My husband and I took the last two days off from work because it was just too hard to handle.  We’ve rearranged our living room so that we don’t look for him every time we go out there.  I only work part-time so much of my day was spent with him running around and it is so hard to know he won’t be here ever again.  Yesterday I had gone almost all day without crying, but as we were cleaning up the living room I found the box that we brought him home in from the pet store.  It was very hard for both of us thinking of him never coming home again.  Today will be my first attempt back at work, hopefully I can make it through without any tears.

I am again so grateful for your helpful and kind words.

                        Hugs to you.

                        I know. It’s so hard.

It gets easier, but there are going to be bad days. Try to keep your head up and remember the good times.
