I consider Rodan to be on the bigger side, but when he was weighed, he’s only 6.15lbs (probably only 6lbs even after the neuter )

My boyfriend is NOT happy with me having gotten Rodan since he is not going to be bonded for a while to Lucky…they still fight insanely..and Rodan sprays urine, they scent mark poops *everywhere* Poor Rodan has a bite mark on his nose from Lucky snapping at him through the ex pen…they go right over to each other to fight! ugh.

Anyways, is this big enough for him?? I could easily build this and getting lots of pressure from my boyfriend to figure something out or he wants them in the unfinished basement where they really won’t see people ever.

Hey, do you have some NIC squares lying around, is that why you like this idea?

There’s actually another thread going on at the moment about the minimum amount of space needed for an NIC cage. Here’s the link: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/129034/Default.aspx

The cage in the link isn’t really big enough I don’t think.
For NIC grids, 3 squares by 2 squares is actually slightly under the minimum amount of space a bunny needs, and that would be for a small bun.
If you could add another level that might help, but each level would need to be at least 1 and a half cubes high. The cage shown isn’t tall enough in my opinion.

You said they’re currently in ex-pens? What’s wrong with keeping them in those?

If they’re in xpens now, I wouldn’t worry about building something new, especially if your goal is to get them bonded in the near future.

my boyfriend is furious over the ex pens. He wants them in the basement, but they would have no human interaction down there. Both are terrified of stairs (as we have found out after moving in on saturday) so I don’t know what to do! I’m trying to find a compromise for him, something smaller but still appropriate for bunnies. He has already cut the ex pen size in half, and freaked when I wanted to take them out last night (Rodan is NOT litter trained, he poops everywhere.Lucky is too but only because it’s a new place. I don’t know why he cares, it’s just bunny poop and I clean it up!) I’m just stressing and trying to find a compromise with him :-/
I might have to put Lucky and his friend in the basement to bond and then bring them back up once they can be in one pen together.

Does he just think you guys don’t have enough space? Was he on board with getting Lucky? You may have mentioned this in your other thread, I don’t remember tho….

It sounds like even if you reduce the space, he’ll still not be happy and find a way to relocate them to the basement. 🙁

As long as the basement is dry and livable, that might be the best solution for now. If you can get a couch or comfy chair down there, you could spend time with them in that space. If it’s not finished, maybe a large area rug for traction during exercise time?

Once they’re bonded and litter habits are (hopefully) better, maybe moving them back up will be an option.

Sorry, got them mixed up… Rodan is the new bunny, right? They’re both neutered already?

Rodan is the new bunny, he was neutered immediately, and Lucky had been neutered before I even got him.

I’m going to try to make a nice little living space downstairs before I even consider it. I got this awesome area rug from home depot that I started using under Lucky and it’s so easy to clean his pen now!
