        Hi ALL,

I have a beautiful dutch rabbit called Pops, she has been completely litter trained until yesterday. Nothing has changed in her diet or the organisation of her litter tray. She has however been behaving quite differently the last few days, being extremely affectionate, following me around, circling my legs, jumping up to sit on my lap – all behaviour which have been a delight, but then yesterday she suddenly started to poop on the floor and wee – all completely out of character. She has just turned one so I am thinking rabbit adolescence and as yet she is not spayed.

Please can you advise me is it territory marking if yes – how do I stop it?

Is it her coming into season and trying to attract me as her mate – so to speak and will having her spayed stop this?

Please help – as I don’t mind the odd stray poop – but I need to know how to stop her doing this.

Hi Pops, welcome to the forum!

What you describe sounds exactly like hormonal behaviour, the circling and and following you are hormonal behaviours, and the pooping is territorial marking.

The only way to resolve these behaviours is to have her spayed, which is also very important for her health. As she’s a year old I’m surprised she hasn’t started showing this behaviour before now to be honest!
Anyway she’s definitely old enough to be spayed, so you shouldn’t have to wait hopefully.
Do you have a good exotics vet?

            Welcome to BB!

I was thinking the same as Tessie, she’s one and this JUST STARTED?! You lucked out then! Usually these behaviors start between 4-7 months….

Yup, sounds like a phone call to the vet is in order, if you don’t already have her spay scheduled. 🙂
