So everybody knows that toilet paper rolls and cardboard boxes are fantastic bunny toys, but making homemade toys can be so much more than that. I love making homemade toys for my bunnies, and I wanted to share some of my ideas. So I thought maybe occasionally I could post a tutorial on how to make a homemade toy(at least until my brain is dry of ideas!) Would that be ok? Let’s try this out!
Today we are making: Cardboard Roll n’ Chew!
EDIT TO ADD: My lovely friend StormyRabbits on BB made a video TOYtorial of this toy (how cool is that!) on her YouTube channel, StormyRabbits. Watch the video here.
So you have probably all seen the Roll n’ chew toys, but many bunnies don’t chew on wood. Let’s make one out of cardboard.
For this tutorial you will need:
-Cardboard
-Scissors
The first thing you need to do is cut three identical cardboard circles. I traced around a can of corn with a pencil, then cut just inside the line.
Next, cut a slice in two of the circles, ending in the middle with a slice that’s a bit wider. In the remaining circle, cut four slices, dividing the circle into quarters. Do not cut all the way to the middle.
Fold the quartered circle in half, and insert it into one of the other circles.
Fold the flaps of the quartered circle out, then fold it in half again the opposite way.
Slide the last remaining circle in the slot, then flatten the flaps out.
Finished!
To make a more realistic roll n’ chew, you can punch some holes in the toy.
Hope everyone enjoyed this TOYtorial, please let me know if you like this idea!
Next weeks tutorial: Hay rings with sheddable paper!
That’s so awesome LEL! I might have to try it out
thanks for posting.
I doubt you’ll get any complaints!
That looks like an awesome project for a naughty, bored bunny day!!
There is no “like” button!!!
This is an awesome thread and look forward to seeing more of your ideas! Can’t wait til next week! ![]()
I can only chime in with the rest, this is GREAT! Thank you!!
I need to make a roll’n chew asap.
This is brilliant! Now I need to find a box to tear up…. ![]()
I love it! Looking forward to next week!!
Wow! Good job Diamond! glad to see somebody try it out and be able to do it, I was afraid I wasn’t clear enough! Thanks for sharing!
The instructions and pics were good!
I made a batch with my niece and nephew. They liked coming around to give one each to the bunnies. : )
Glad you guys liked them.
Making the next toy right now, I should have it up tomorrow, just on schedule.![]()
This is great idea. I would love to feature some of the favorites in our DIY TOY Gallery – Next weeks looks like something that would be great to feature. One ones that get great responses, message me and I may post them then in our DIY gallery! https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/22/PID/940/Default.aspx
Helloworld!!
I’ve done something similar to that roll n chew toy before! I used the cardboard circles from the Maze Haven (for people who aren’t familiar with that, it is a cardboard maze that is sold here through the BB store). The panels on the maze have circle cut-outs that allow the bunny to hop through. When you assemble it, you have to remove the circles. They worked very well for this!
Wow BB, I would be honoured! I wanted to do like one poll each month asking what everyone’s favourite toy for that month was anyway, I could just give you the favourites! How do I make a poll?
Welcome to this Friday’s TOYtorial!
Today we will be making: Hay rings with shreddable paper!
Two of the most classic rabbit toys are hay stuffed paper
bags and willow rings. This toy is a combination of both those toys!
For this tutorial you will need:
-Brown paper bag
-Scissors
-Long-strand hay
-Sisel string or other safe string
The first thing to do is to gather a pile of hay and begin
to twist it.
Next, form the twist into a circle. If you can, try to wrap
the circle in the same direction you are twisting so that the loop is tighter.
Tuck in the extra bits of hay so that the loop holds itself.
Then cut off sticking-out pieces.
Next, grab your paper bag and cut off the side.
From the same side, cut a strip approx ¾ in wide.
Unfold the ¾ in strip, and begin to wrap it around your ring
of hay.
Keep going until the ring is all covered, then cut a piece
of sisel about 5 in long.
Tie the sisel around the ring where the strip ends to hold
it in place.
Finished!
To make a more fun toy, you can link the rings together to make a chain.
Hope everyone enjoyed this TOYtorial, if you make this toy please share
pics with me!
Next weeks tutorial: Sisel Carrot!
Oh wow! I love these ideas!!
Gotta make them for my Oreo! (:
Nobody even noticed that I didn’t post the tutorial for last week.:'(
I was wondering where the carrot was.
Oh wow. I saw the dates wrong. I thought the carrot was tomorrow!
I really wanna see it. I’ve been putting off buying a toss carrot from Pet Smart for awhile due to its price, but this would be an epic alternative.
Will you still post it?
Of course I will post the carrot if you guys want to see. I just thought you guys didn’t like the last toy or something because nobody said anything. Weekly tutorials to resume tomorrow!
Oh no LEL! I look every week – when I didn’t see the carrot I thought you were busy with Lionel’s Birthday Party? And I hassle you for pic’s as it is (lol), didn’t want to hassle you anymore. I LOVE your toy’s! Can I vote now? My favourites are all the one’s you already made and are gonna bring and GIVE to me when you come visit me in Australia! Ha ha ha ha….. Just cause “I’m” not handy and couldn’t make one for the life of me – I still love to look and learn! Can’t wait for the carrot! Cheers LEL.
LEL the next toyturial needs to be up, pronto!
LEL! I’ve been looking too!! But I can’t even keep up with what the current day is… much less when every Friday comes. I’m relying on you guys to let me know when Friday is!! <3
I am for sure excited for every Friday now, or even every other Friday. I think all these toys are wonderful ideas!
I only found this recently, but I already gathered supplies and everything to get started lol
Great ideas! I want more toys for Lola, but the ones at most stores are overpriced and/or made in China, so your TOYtorials are GREAT!!
I’ve made my own willow rings, but I’m definitely going to try the hay rings ASAP.
~Kristin
I feel like such a flake. I don’t mean to make excuses, but…
I was unexpectedly out of town today and yesterday. Forgive me for not putting up the toy tutorial, I have been very busy.
Thank you for your patience and I will have it up ASAP.
Waiting……. LOL!
haha me too I keep checking this thread hoping.
Haha, no pressure![]()
I’ll be attempting to make roll n’ chew later on. It’ll probably be a disaster though! lol
These are great though. I love how easy to understand they are. I’m looking forward to the sisal carrot toyturial. Although I’ll need some sisal before I try.
I promise guys, this will never happen again!
Boy am I a busy bunny! Took all the pics, they are uploading to my pc.
Sorry for the horrible lateness of this
TOYtorial, but to make up for it I have made two great toys to show you! The
first is the promised sisel carrot, the second is just a fun hanging toy.
Let’s get started!
I trust everyone has seen or at least heard of
the Flip-n-toss carrot toy. But face it, is it really worth it to spend six
bucks on a piece of plastic with dyed sisel glued on it? I wanted to make a
homemade version.
For this TOYtorial, you will need:
-Scissors
-Flour
-Water
-Sisel string
-Pencil with eraser
-Spoon
(Ignore the peas in the photo, I have no idea
how they got there)
The first thing you need to do is mix your flour
and water until you get a thick gloopy mixture. This will be your glue. While
flour is not the best thing for bunnies, it is a fine alternative to glue.
Next, cut 2 identical carrot shapes out of
cardboard. Don’t make them too small, mine were about 4 in long.
Now cut two smaller identical carrot shapes.
Cut a slit in the top of one of the large
carrots.
Using the flour glue, glue one small carrot in
the center of each large carrot, then glue the backs of the large shapes
together.
Take the end of the sisel string and glue it
between the tips of the shape.
Start on the tip and begin wrapping the sisel
around the cardboard base. You can use some glue to hold it on in a few spots.
Keep going until you get to the top, then cut
the sisel, put a bit of glue on the end, and shove it down into the slot you
made in one of the large carrot shapes. (I used a pencil to shove it deep in
the slot.)
Cut two pieces of sisel about 6 inches long.
Fold them in half, and dip the fold in the glue.
Then use the pencil to shove the folds in the slot on the top of the carrot, so
the carrot has 4 strings coming out its top.
Then trim and fray the tassles to your liking,
then you are finished!
That’s the sisel carrot! The hanging toy is
going to be in a separate post, right after this.
I fixed the pics, enjoy!![]()
Here is the bonus TOYtorial! We will be making a hanging
pom-pom sheddable toy.
You will need:
-Sisel string
-Scissors
-Brown paper bag
-Binder clip
Firstly, cut the paper bag in long thin strips.
Then cut the strips in half and pile them together.
Tie the end of the sisel string tightly around the middle of
the strands.
Pull the strips around and crumple them into a ball.
Repeat this step except cut of the extra sisel string.
Tie the sisel coming off one of the pom-poms to the other
free pom-pom. Leave a little string between them.
Cut the end of the string to your desired length, then tie
it to the binder clip.
Finished!
I hope you enjoyed this TOYtorial, if you make
this toy please post pictures, I would love to see! Leave any requests for
homemade toys down below, and stay tuned for more bunny toy tutorials!
LEL I’d love to say I understand this tutorial without the pictures…but I don’t D:
Oh it sounds great and rather easy!
But it sucks the pics didn’t work D:
Will still try to make it though
I will attempt to fix the pictures today as well as adding he promised bonus toy.
The pictures showed up when I viewed this. Anyways, so creative!! I love all of these![]()
Both tutorials are up with working pics!
Enjoy!![]()
yay thanks so much!!!
Yay!! I can’t wait to go to the store and get my supplies for all of these!! Lulu and I will have a fun craft day in the near future
I’m excited about that last one! It looks so super easy, I should have no problem doing that one lol;P
Awesome LEL!!!!!! How good are you! Love them, but remember I have dib’s on the ones you already made – make sure you pack them safely in your suitcase for me, he he he he……
I have to be honest, I can’t help but think if my kids were still young, this would have been a great activity for us to share, and I definitely would have given it a go! And my youngest son would have trumped it, I just know it! Guess what I’ll be doing when I have grandkiddies….. not rushing that thought though, ha ha hah!
Wow, these are so awesome! Where would you recommend getting sisal that hasn’t been treated with something?
AndHenry- I will use lots of bubble wrap and tissue!
LBJ10- I got mine at a local flower shop. I must have looked like a real idiot in the shop, smelling and tasting the sisal to make sure it wasn’t treated. LOL. I also called the company.
I just had an image of us shopping together in the florist shop LEL. We would have walked in together, but out separately after seeing you ‘taste’ the sisal! HA HA HA HA! Just joking – that would have been sooooo funny!!!!!!! (do they have a video surveillance set up?) LOL!
“I’ll take this, thanks”! as your munching away….. LOVE IT!
I hope they don’t have video surveillance….
We seriously need to get together, that would be a bucket of laughs! LOL <3 AndHenry
Thanks so much LEL! I think I’m gonna check the local sports shop for some sisal, they sell fishing/boating/hunting stuff there… if not I’ll have to get some online I think. These are really great! I’ll post pics when I do mine, promise!
OK.. Second snowday in a row so I decided to see what this thread was all about. I don’t usually get on this forum at all. I saw your first project and decided to give it a try. I actually had a box that had held a dozen cans, so I didn’t even have to trace! I cut out all 12 indentations and went to work. Now, if Blue Moods sees this she will roll her eyes, but I have to confess that when I was in Vet Tech school a million years ago, we had to spend time on a farm and part of the lessons were tying knots. I could NOT tie a fancy knot for ANYTHING!!! That said, I will say I got two of the 3 pieces together, but could not figure out attaching the 3rd circle. I’m going to give it to my hubby as a project to see if he can. HOWEVER, here is Gus with one of the 2-piece toys. Look at his back legs and you’ll see he’s laying down. He wouldn’t get up to explore it, so I put it right under his nose, then he chewed it…while laying down.
All tired out!
Cool thread, LEL!!! Thank you from Gus and the crew!
Megabunny, glad you tried it out! Thanks for sharing pics, Gus is adorable! (especially when he flopped!) It looks like he had fun!
LEL, I just saw this thread now, and I want to let you know I’m SO HAPPY! I rarely get on BB anymore but now I just started working from home. I get very bored and I’m always looking up DIY stuff. I can’t wait to start making these while I’m working!
thank you so much! The internet definitely needs more DIY rabbit stuff because I understand they like cardboard toilet paper rolls, but I don’t. I’m not interested in a boring toy I put no effort into
lol thank you, thank you, thank you!
LEL, you’re my hero!
Oh yay!
Not only are the pictures working, but another toy is up! Yay!
As soon as I get free tine, I’m making like all of these for my bunny girl c:
Bumpy’s attention span lasts about as long as the treats hold out, so to get him to appreciate my work, I did a little modifying…
I put 2 holes in the ball (here you see the size of one):
Then I stuffed a raisin in each hole (smashed it in really good):
Then called him over and dropped it in front of him:
He got very excited, grabbed it and ran into his “room” where he proceeded to run around with it in his mouth, dropping it, trying to get the raisins out, grabbing it and running around frantically. He finally made a run for it into his little hidey house.
I did fret him a bit, taking it away and dropping it randomly, making him come out for it again and again. After snapping some photos and video, I went to put the cameras down and discovered Outlaw had the ball in the dog bed. He had already worked the last raisin out of the hole and was just beginning to chew the cardboard up. I hurriedly took it from him, telling him no… wish I had gotten a picture of that first though. ![]()
Thanks LEL! You provided us with great laughs tonight!
That is the cutest ever manic!!!!! Great idea to put the raisin/craisin in – I bet everyone will do that now! And Megabunny, good on you for giving it a go (better than me!) – it looks like Gus enjoyed it too! How wonderful!
LEL what an awesome thread!!!! Thank you for taking the time to show everyone how to make these toys!!!
Aw it sounds like Bumpy really loved the modification! I love that idea Manic!
Manic, You are awesome! I could never show that close-up of my toy. Looked like heck, but Gus didn’t mind. Gracie didn’t like hers, but I’ll try the raisin trick.
Love this thread ![]()
ManicMuncher-GREAT job! I am so glad Bumpy (and Outlaw) enjoyed! Good idea with the raisin!
HI everybunny!
Today is a more simple, but still fun, tutorial. Mabye even
AndHenry could figure it out
!
Today we are making: Play and chew mat!
You will need:
-Cardboard
-Paper bag
-Toilet roll tube
-Bunny safe stick
-Sisel string
-Sewing pin
-Scissors
-Plastic sewing needle (this is not necessary, but it makes
it a lot quicker and easier!)
Let’s get started!
First, cut a square out of cardboard.
Now, use the sewing pin to poke holes about ½ cm from the
edge and ¾ cm apart.
Thread the sisel on the plastic sewing needle.
Begin to stitch around the edge of the mat. Stick the needle
down though the cardboard, then bring it back up and repeat.
When you have sewed all the way around, tie off the sisel
and snip off any extra.
Now comes the fun part: attaching the toys. You can use
whatever chew toys you want, I have just given some examples.
I made a small pom-pom using the method we used in the last
tutorial, then poked two holes in the cardboard and tied it down.
For a zig-zag toy, cut out two identical m shapes, then
weave them together.
I poked one hole in the cardboard for this, then tied sisal
to the end of the zigzag, poked it through the hole, then tied a knot.
Then, I cut a ring of toilet roll tube, and tied that on by
poking two holes on either side then threading it though and tying.
I then attached an apple twig in the same method I used for
the zig-zag.
Finshed! So this is a very simple toy to make, put also very
fun for your bunnies!
Next week’s tutorial is going to be a “bunny sweets bar”
where I will show you how to make a simple cardboard pie, ice cream, and donut
for your bun!
If you try this out, please share pics.
If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned for
next weeks TOYtorial!![]()
Yay! My hubby the engineer did it! He was about to give up after getting the two together, said, “I don’t know”, jammed them together and WALA! He said he’d put more together if I do the cutouts, but I also want to try the hay ring. Ha ha
Yay! Looks great MegaBunny! Glad you could get it, cardboard can be a bit confusing.
LOVE the “NEW” toy LEL! I can’t wait to get my hands on that one! (or should I say Henry???). Lol….
Great job MB! And your hubby thought you married him for his looks? it was the engineering degree to make bunny toys! (you secretly had your future all planned out – bunnies!), ha ha ha….
MB-could your high tech engineer hubby make me a Eiffel Tower out of cardboard for my bunnies? LOL
An Eifel tower? Did I miss something or is that an upcoming Toytorrial?
I should probably clarify he’s not that high tech. Mostly a computer nerd. By the time he fixed all of Gus’ destruction this weekend he didn’t have energy for much else but did finally get things w/ the computer working so I could print out some of those Easter memes. Now I have to figure out where to post them. He he
MB, just tell him it’s for the welfare of 3 (maybe 4?) bunnies! He’ll do it?????
Oh i will definitely try out these bunny toys
cant wait!!
Thank you LEL!
Posted By Megabunny on 3/17/2014 4:38 AM
An Eifel tower? Did I miss something or is that an upcoming Toytorrial? No, I just say somebody once that had a cardboard Eifel tower for their bunnies. I will attempt to make one now!
Yeah. You do that!! Ha ha
And when LEL is done we wanna see pic’s hey MB! ha ha haha……
Ha ha ha. Sure do!
I am going to change the tutorials from every Friday to every Saturday, because I forgot how busy my Fridays are. So look forward to Saturday tutorials!
(And I should have last Friday’s up very soon. Hopefully they day change will allow me to more easily post the toys, so I don’t feel like such a flake :/)
<3 LEL
We look forward to it, but don’t feel bad for times you just can’t do it, for whatever reason. You are giving us free information, and using your spare time and energy to offer it. I am sure I speak for everyone here when I say, we are thankful!
Please don’t let it become a chore. Do whatever you can, as much as you want, whenever you want. Keep it fun for YOU too!
Ditto manic!
That makes me feel better about myself, lol!
Ooh, Lel, I tried the roll and chew too. It worked great! Thank you so much for all these, great ideas! I agree with maniac and andHenry. Keep it fun!
Oh I came up with a toy the other day. I’ll have to make a thread about it!
Oh yes! We are ALL ‘joking’ when we demand our new toy session! It’s our way of saying how awesome they (and YOU) are – what a compliment!
You and all that you offer to the BB forum’s (not just the toy’s) are enjoyed and appreciated! Don’t ever worry about timelines, this is fun for everyone/bun including you! Cheers LEL.
Edit to ADD – MK, I’m sure LEL won’t mind you sharing YOUR toy on her thread (only if YOU want to of course, lol!).
Cheers.
MK- You can absolutely share your toy here! I look forward to it!
AH- I love how you joke about it, I just am super OCD so if I don’t do something I feel bad lol. I do enjoy this! ![]()

Ditto! Definitely don’t put yourself under pressure LEL. I’m impressed with how many you’ve already done. You’ve certainly revived the DIY toy movement.

AndHenry- I will use lots of bubble wrap and tissue!
LBJ10- I got mine at a local flower shop. I must have looked like a real idiot in the shop, smelling and tasting the sisal to make sure it wasn’t treated. LOL. I also called the company.
Haha! I automatically smell things. Especially if its something in buying for the rabbits. If with a friend at the time, i get teased about it.
I’ve also tasted their hay on occasion.
Lol @ MB and her husbands success with the roll & chew. Heh heh.
You know, we could probably put his tech skills to a rabbit project yet.
We’ll have to brainstorm.
Oh and what’s with big bunnies and lying down all the time?! Alice does this too. She’ll lie and eat pellets or hay sometimes. It’s so silly.
Mmm LEL… The Eiffel Tower idea is intriguing. I’m
tempted… Even though I have a 100 other things I should be doing.
This reminds me about the prototype for the maze haven. BBs husband designed it when a student in architecture!
I should have several tutorials up this weekend, including the Eiffel tower and the bunny “sweets.”

Today’s TOYtorial has been inspired by AndHenry’s very
naughty boy, Henry. He chewed up a coke can, and ate the contents. Today, I made
a safe to chew, but still equally rewarding toy for our dear Henry bun!
Today we are making: Coke Can toy!
For this tutorial, you will need:
-Cardboard
-Scissors
-Sisel string
-Hay and treats to stuff your toy with
-Optional-Food color, water, paintbrush
-Toilet roll tube
First, cut your roll so that it has the same proportions as
a real coke can.
Next, trace the ends of the roll onto cardboard, and cut out
the circles.
Take one of the circles, and shove it in the end of the
toilet roll so that the roll is sticking out slightly. You may have to trim the
circle slightly.
Cut a hole in the remaining circle.
Then cut out a pull-tab.
Poke another small hole in the remaining circle, and use a
piece of sisel string to tie the pull tab on.
Then stuff the toilet roll with hay and treats, with the end
with the cardboard circle facing down to hold the circle in.
Now stuff the top in the can in, so that it comes down below
the top of the roll slightly.
This part is optional, but it adds a lot to your toy. You can
use a very watered down food coloring to paint the name of the soda of your
choice on the front.
Done!
If you try this out, please share pics.
If you have any
requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned for the next TOYtorial!
Now, I said I would make an Eiffel tower, so here it is!
Sorry for the bad lighting!
For this tutorial, you will need:
-Cardboard
-Scissors
-Box Cutter
First, you need to cut out two identical Eiffel tower
shapes. To make a template, I drew half of the outline of the Eiffel tower on a
folded piece of paper, then unfolded so it would be symmetrical.
Now, cut a slit halfway up from the bottom of one and
halfway down from the bottom of the other.
Slit them together.
Now, you want to make three little balconies. You need to
cut three squares with sides a little bigger than the spaces between the
cardboard at any point on your tower. This will make more sense later. Cut a
sideways “x” in each of the squares, almost to the edge.
Now slide the squares on, until they sit nicely. This is
when the previous step should make more sense.
Now trim and shape the balconies to your liking, and you are
finished!
If you try this out, please share pics.
If you have any
requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned for the next
TOYtorial!
LEL! That is the FUNNIEST ever!!!!!!!!!! What a surprise we all got when I checked your thread out to see what toy you made for this week. You had the hubby and my son in stitches laughing…… (though I’m not sure if Henry will be happy with the healthier version of COKE???) Ha ha ha…..
And the Eiffel tower – I am SO impressed! (so will Megabunny when she see’s it!). You are amazing!
![]()
The Coke can! LMAO!
AH-
Thought you might get a kick out of that! ROFL!
Oh the things you can do with a toilet roll tube! As for Henry being happy with his cardboard can, he should just be happy he didn’t cut his mouth open!
My bunnies must have something against the French, as when I gave them the Eiffel tower, they promptly shredded it and tried to drown it in their water dish! LOL!
Haha
awesome LEL.
You are so creative!
Thanks! ![]()
HA HA HA HA! The poor French! Still laughing……
Next I can make the Sydney opera house, and my bunnies can kill Aussie monuments as well! HAHAHAH! And you can make the white house or something and Henry can eat American landmarks! Talk about vanilla!
Vanilla? Um I mean BUNZILLA stupid incorrect!
Autocorrect, not incorrect.
Please excuse Amanda while she bangs her iPad on the bed and then realizes a better solution would be to just turn autocorrect off.
You have got me in hysterics – I am laughing so hard!
You won’t be laughing while I kill Aussie monuments by making them out of cardboard and giving them to my bunnies-the BEST mode of destruction! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh my gosh you two!!! ![]()
Adorable!
coke can lol
Omg, that coke can looks amazing! So does the Eiffel tower! Gotta make them o3o
I made the Roll N Chew and that pom-pom hanging toy for my Oreo and she loves them c:
You are so creative! Thank you for sharing so many amazing DIYs!
Thanks! I am glad Oreo likes them, and that you tried them out!
Aw man! I was hoping this topic was old so I would have a long list of toys to make
Oh well, will definitely be trying these out!!! Can’t wait for more! Thank you so much ![]()
Next TOYtorial has been made and should be up tomorrow! ![]()

Aw man! I was hoping this topic was old so I would have a long list of toys to make 🙁 Oh well, will definitely be trying these out!!! Can’t wait for more! Thank you so much
Some more ideas here if you havent already seen.
https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/22/PID/940/Default.aspx
LEL, school holidays coming up here so Im thinking I’lll get my nieces and nephews onto making some of these. They enjoy the activity.
JG-Yay! I hope they enjoy it!
I was thinking during spring break I would do a toy marathon where I post one to each on Mon-Fri. What do you guys think?
LEL that sounds like a great idea! Lol I just gotta do some major catching up now!!!
Hi and welcome to this TOYtorial!
Today we will be making: Bunny Pie!
You will need:
-Cardboard
-Template(see below)
-Razor Knife
-Flour and water glue
-Optional: Hay and treats to stuff the toy, decorations
First, print out this template that I have made. Resize it
however you would like.
Cut out your template on the outside lines.
Then place on a piece of cardboard, trace around, and cut
out a cardboard shape.
Cut the template as shown.
Then use the variety of shapes to trace the patterns on the
shape so they resemble the template before you cut it.
Then score on all the lines with the razor so that they
bend, but are not cut off completely. Only push out the blade a tiny amount.
Cut a wavy “pie crust” design in the top rectangle. (the one with the flaps)
Flip the toy over and place a bit of glue on the top of the
two rectangles.
Fold so the flaps are on the glue.
You can stuff with hay and treats now if you wish.
Now fold one of the triangle flaps over, and apply glue. Fold
the other flap onto the glue.
Done! Now you can decorate it! Be creative. I chose to do a
simple design with some white paper and a crasin.
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. I also will be making an effort to improve
the picture quality, so watch for that. If you have any requests for homemade
toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned for the next TOYtorial!
.
LEL, we need see your bunnies enjoying all these new toys!!
That pie would be a hit filled up with dried flowers & leaves like in the hay toppers.
Ok, I took these shots yesterday of a super simple Easter basket my nephew made at school. Thought it might be an idea for rabbit gift or toy?
I think it’s easy enough to see the design but let me know if you’d like a description.
If I get the time, I’ll try this using poster cardboard and sisal or zip tie instead of the split pin. I use zipties for just about everything!
Ooh! Thanks Jersey, that will make a great bunny toy! I will definitely use this idea! Thanks!
Aww, bunny pie! Hahaha! So cute!
Jersey – That’s really neat! I definitely think that could be remade as a bunny toy.
Hello and welcome to not one, not two, but THREE spring/Easter
TOYorials! I have three tutorials to share with you, all based on spring and Easter.
TOYtorial #1: Bunny Easter Basket (thank you to jersey for
the idea!)
You will need:
-Scissors
-Sisel
-THICK paper or poster board (mine wasn’t thick enough so it
turned out rather wonky)
First, cut a rectangle of thick paper, and then cut strips
in the sides so there is only a thin strip of uncut paper in the middle. This
is rather trial and error, so cut a bit at a time.
Fold the strips up, alternating sides, to the middle.
Repeat until all strips are folded.
Then poke a hole through the center of all the strips, and
thread a piece of sisel through.
Tie a loose knot to hold it
in place.
Repeat for the other side.
Now cut a handle strip out of the paper. Again, it is trial
and error for the length. Punch holes in both sides.
Thread the sisel through the hole in the handle, then use
the sisel to tie a large knot on the inside of the basket.
On the outside of the basket, use the extra sisel to tie a
bow.
Repeat for the other side, then you are finished!
Tutorial #2 and #3 will be in separate posts,
right after this one. ![]()
TOYtorial #2: Easter egg
You will need:
-Toilet tissue
-Water balloons
-Water
-Scissors
-Hay and treats
-Diluted food coloring
-Paint brushes
First blow up a few water balloons. Pick the one that is
most egg-shaped. You can also gently squeeze the balloons to change their
shape.
Dip the toilet tissue in water and squeeze it out slightly. Then
lay it on the balloon. Repeat this until the tissue is 4-5 layers think
everywhere on the balloon, except the tie.
Let it dry for a few days, and then pop the balloon. Extract
the balloon, and fill the egg with hay and treats.
Layer a few pieces of toilet tissue over the hole, and let
dry overnight.
After the egg is dry, you can use diluted food colors to
paint it. Then you are finished!
Safety note: While toilet paper is generally safe to chew,
it is not good for your rabbit to ingest. Please use only under supervision,
and do not use if your rabbit likes to eat things it shouldn’t.
Part 3 up soon!![]()
TOYtorial #3: Daffodil!
Real daffodils are pretty, but not good for bunnies to eat.
Cardboard flowers are fun though!
You will need:
-Egg carton
-Cardboard
-Scissors
-Sisel
Cut a single cup off the egg carton.
Cut a zig-zag pattern in the top of the egg cup to look like
the center of a daffodil.
Cut a flower shape out of cardboard. Make sure the middle
part is a bit larger than the bottom of the egg cup.
Cut tw o holes each in the bottom of the egg cup and the top of the flower.
Cut two 2 inch pieces of sisel, and tie knots in both ends
of each piece.
Cut a larg er piece of
sisel.
Thread this pice through one of the holes in the flower, one
hole in the egg cup, over the middle of the two 2 inch pieces of sisel, and
through the remaining holes.
Th en flip over the flower
and tie the sisel in a knot to keep the flower on.
Fi nished!
You can do many things with these. You can tie them onto
your rabbits pen, cut the string and use as a toss toy, or put them in your
bunnies Easter basket!
I hope you enjoyed these TOYtorials. I will have more out
next week! J
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. I also will be making an effort to improve
the picture quality, so watch for that. If you have any requests for homemade
toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned for the next TOYtorial!
You continue to ASTOUND me LEL! I’m trying to pick my favourite but gee, your making it hard. (Henry would love to destroy/eat all of those!). I’ll have a little think and post on your poll. Cheers Amanda.
WOW THANKS! lol.
You are too nice!
I’m being nice when I say Henry would LOVE to destroy your toys! ha ha ha ha….. sounds funny hey! Love it!!!!
I like the shape of the basket you did and how it stands up on its own.
I would be very tempted to put it on one of the buns like a helmet. :p
Love the spotty egg!
Jersey-Thanks! I plan to fill the basket with goodies for my bunnies for Easter.
Haha bunny helmets!
Wow LEL, yet again you have created some awesome bunny toys! These are such wonderful ideas!
Thanks everyone! ![]()
I’m always so excited to check here and see what you made! (:
So many amazing ideas!
Just got some new cardboard boxes so I’ll be making more toys soon! (:
Made a basket and treat filled ‘egg’ for my pooch and Ox. I made a few adjustments, like not making a handle, using strips of paper bag to tie it together (I don’t have sisal), and using tissue paper from a gift bag I received to wrap around the balloons. They were both fuzzy approved despite the changes!
MissGabbster-I am so happy you found inspiration from my toys!
Changes are always good in toy-making!
New toy has been made and the TOYtorial should be up ASAP. ![]()
Welcome to this new TOYtorial! I like the food theme so
today we will be making another bunny safe food item-a cupcake!
For this TOYtorial you will need:
-Cardboard
-Cardboard coffee sleeve printed with safe or no ink
-2 paper bags
-Sisel string
-Scissors
-Pencil
-An extra pair of hands. You can use your spouses, or pick a
stranger up from the street. Bunny paws won’t work, but your feet will work in
a pinch if you live alone.
First, cut a circle slightly larger than the base of your
coffee sleeve.
Shove it down in your coffee sleeve.
Trace the top of the sleeve and cut a circle that size. Then
shove it in the top of the sleeve so that it is about half a centimeter or so
from the top edge. You can stuff hay between the two circles for a more fun
toy. My picture for this step didn’t happen,
but it is rather simple.
Crumple up one of the paper bags, and set it on the top of
the cupcake base.
Cut the remaining paper bag open so it is big and flat.
Drape the paper bag over the top of the cupcake, and enlist
your extra pair of hands to hold it tight.
Using your remaining pair of hands, tie a piece of sisel
around the paper bag where it overlaps with the sleeve inside. Tie a tight bow.
Then trim off the extra paper bag. At this point you can
tell the extra hands to shoo.
Done! You can decorate this however you want. Experiment using
different papers and sleeves. Have fun with it!
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned
for the next TOYtorial!
That’s so cute! What about a toy they can throw around (they can with anything I guess) like a dumbbell or something like that. And by the way I LOVE this thread it’s my favorite! It’s so helpful is your not rich ![]()
Thanks! I actually have a few toss-toys planned. I am so happy you like this thread! ![]()
I have made a dumbbell toy and even have a tutorial for it on youtube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4KY-dFm3MQ skip to 5:30 for the dumbbell toy. Btw LEL i LOVE your toytorials! i especially love the pie and eiffel tower (though i havent made either because ive been to busy… but i plan to this week XD)
Henry can’t wait to get his paw’s and teeth on the cupcake you just made for him – he said to say THANK’S! (you spoil Henry way too much Amanda!) LOL!
Oh yes Henry, I hope you will enjoy all the toys I am bringing to you this summer in HAWAII!
Bunnyluvva13-I can’t wait to watch your tutorial later on my pc. I am so glad you like my toys! Thanks! ![]()
Henry said you better not have let Lionel (his competition for your girls) play with ‘HIS’ toys first…….
Lionel could not care less about Henry’s toys. The girls, however, have agreed that they are going to play hard-to-get.
Henry said ‘he is up for the challenge’! Watch out Roxi and Asha……
Gee, I can’t wait to see how this all play’s out??? I’m a little worried…….
LOL!
*Roxy binky*
I just whispered in Henry’s ear to try for Roxi first, she seems a little keen?, but he thinks Asha is prettier? I’M NOT GETTING INVOLVED! and I refuse to let our bun’s come between our friendship! They can work it out in Hawaii (preferably while you and I are sipping on cocktails by the pool) LOL!
Oh man sounds like a bunny soap opera about to happen! ![]()
LOL!
LEL, you are so talented! I tried making the first toy on here, (the roll n’ Chew), It doesn’t look the best, but I’ll try again! Hopefully moxie likes it. I’m going to try the coke can next. I have no sisel string, so I’ll try to find a way to make it without that. I’m not good at these things, I could barely make the roll n’ chew, but I’m sure everybody else on here is a lot better! I’ll take pics later, but I’ll make a better looking one first!![]()
LOL, “join BB, we have everything! TOYtorials, Forums, and….(drum role please!) Bunny soap operas!” ![]()
Yep and even though I do love General Hospital I think a bunny soap would be much more amusing![]()
Lol, I totally agree! Who could resist such adorable drama?![]()
I tried to make the coke can… ![]()
MoxieMeadows-How did it turn out?
To be honest, it looked a little weird and not nearly as good as yours! But I’ve never been too good at crafts…
I’m going to try the sisal string carrot next. How do I know if it’s untreated? How would it smell if it was treated? ![]()
Can’t wait to see your next TOYtorial!![]()
Smell it. You my look like an idiot, but hey…. If it’s treated it will smell unnatural or like chemicals.
Next TOYtorial is a toss toy and should be up soon, as well as a little other thing I have put together.
![]()
(Yay toss toy) is twine ok to use instead of sisel string? Also I can’t wait to start makings these toys! Next Tuesday I’m going to the shelter to look at bunnies and maybe adopt one! It’s gonna be one happy bun with all these toys! ![]()
Depending on the twine. In general, most natural materials are ok, because they are dried, and sine the bunny isn’t going to be eating them, most things should be fine.
A new bun-How exciting! I can’t wait to hear about it!
Moxie doesn’t really like toys…Maybe she’ll like the sisal string carrot or the new toss toy?![]()
That’s the good think about homemade toys. If your bun doesn’t like them, you didn’t spend a ton of money on them. So it can never hurt to try!
I know! I went to the pet section, and there was this tiny ball thing made of some sort of stick? Anyway, it was like 8 dollars! ![]()
Haha my room is so cluttered with cardboard and cardboard tubes and string can’t wait to start making some toys when I get home
lol (btw turns out I’m going Saturday) ![]()
I made the ‘Coke’! I should have taken a picture before I gave it to Tiger, because she’s playing pretty rough with it. >.< Oops! I'll post a picture of it (or whatever's left of it) once she takes a break from it. XD Thanks for the toytorials LEL! Can't wait to make some more. ![]()
Hi and welcome to today’s TOYtorial! Sorry for the long absence!
Today we will be making: Barbell Toss Toy!
You will need:
-Cardboard
-Scissors
-Toilet Roll Tube
First, flatten your tube.
Cut two rectangles in the sides. Cut through both layers, but don’t make them too big.
Fold the tube in half the other way, then repeat the cutting step.
Then reform the tube.
Cut two circles the size of the end of the tube, and push one into one end.
Cut two circles small enough to fit easily in the tube, and cut a slit to the middle of each one.
Place the ball in the tube, and insert the remaining larger circle in the end.
Finished!
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned
for the next TOYtorial!
Is that Lionel playing with Henry’s NEW toy??? Hate to say it LEL, but Henry is NOT happy! (I said to take it up with you directly when we get to Hawaii). Lol….
LOVE IT!!!
Oh don’t worry Henry, I have one reserved just for YOU!
I just made this and Bam LOVED it. He was tossing it around and then when he accomplished his goal of destroying it flopped out. I’ll post a pic of it later. So cute! I shared with a group on facebook so their bunnies can enjoy this too!
So glad to hear Bam loved it! Thanks for sharing! ![]()
.jpg)
He was going crazy tossing it every which way :p
Mission accomplished :p
Awwww! So cute! Glad he liked it, cutie pie! Thanks for the pics!
I haven’t been on BinkyBunny much lately but decided to hop on today and found this awesome thread! I just spent the last 30min browsing through this thread! I am so excited to try some of these when I have spare time! I have been running out of creative ideas to do with my bunnies and they are getting bored of there toys! Thanks for this awesome thread!!!
I’m going to make this as soon as I log off XD Larry loves to throw cardboard around this will be perfect thanks!!
Gotta make this for my Oreo! She will love it!!
I just made the Barbell Toss Toy and put it in front of Ox. He was going to come over and see what it was; sat up, did a HUGE stretch, and lay down again in his stretched out position. The thought of playing with it was too tiring for him. LOL I’ll let you know if he ever manages to get to it.
Missy-Owner of Oreo and Whobott-Let me know how your buns like them!
MissGabster-That’s so funny! He got tired just looking at it! Phew! ![]()
Welcome to today’s TOYtorial! Today we will be making a
hanging flower basket, similar to the ones sold in stores.
You will need:
-Scissors
-Cardboard tape roll (duct tape rolls, similar)
-Paper bags
-Pencil
-Sisel string
-Binder clip
-Rabbit safe sticks
-Cardboard
-Optional: Diluted food coloring
First, cut two circles the right size to fit inside your
tape roll.
Cut 3 holes in one of the circles. Set aside the circles.
Then cut 2 pieces of sisel string, one twice as long as the
other. Tie the shorter piece to the middle of the longer piece. Set aside.
Next, cut a long strip of paper bag long enough to wrap
around your roll and as wide as the roll plus a few inches. Cut horizonatal
slits in the strip, stopping ¾ of an inch away from the end of the strip on
both sides.
Cut small strips out of another paper bag, and begin weaving
them in the longer strips.
Weave the strips until the entire long strip is woven.
Wrap this around the roll.
Fold the extra in the roll to hold it in place.
Put the circle with no holes in this side, close to the top.
Flip the basket over, and lay the center of the sisel string
over the middle of the basket, so that the strings lay out evenly in thirds.
Then shove the circle with the holes in over the string. Push
this circle in farther.
Use the sisel to tie a bow around the basket.
Make your flower stems by wrapping small rectangles of paper
bag around the sticks. I painted my paper green with food coloring but this is
optional.
Make your flowers by cutting wavy arch shapes from paper bag
(again I colored mine but this is optional) and roll them up and twist them to
the top of the stem.
Stick the flowers in the holes you made it the top circle.
Now tie the three strings to a binder clip so you can hang
your flower basket, and then you are done!
(Sorry Henry, I gave it to Roxy because I didn’t think a
flower basket would be manly enough for you!)
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned
for the next TOYtorial!
That’s such a sweet toy! And Henry said for a toy as fun as that, he has no issue showing his feminine side…… (giggle). LOL!
Oh I forgot-Henry’s a ladies man.
Teehee
It looks great! Did Moxie like it?
New Toytorial to be up soon! ![]()
She chewed on the edges a bit, But she’s never really been a toy bunny.![]()
Welcome to today’s TOYtorial! Today we are making a rather
odd looking toy, but my bunnies LOVED it! (Don’t worry Henry, there’s one for
you too!) Today we are making Cardboard tube-diggy-play-mat-chewable….thing? Ah
well, it doesn’t matter, here we go!
You will need:
-Wrapping paper tubes (you can use toilet roll tubes as
well, but I imagine it would take a whole lot more work) the more you have, the
bigger your toy
-Sisel string
-Scissors
First, flatten your cardboard tubes.
Then cut slits all along one edge about 1cm apart, but don’t
cut through the edge.
Then reshape the tubes and begin bending them on the slits
so they are very flexible.
Then tie your tubes together by forcing the end ring of one
into the ending ring of the other, then tying with sisel.
Curl the tube into a mat shape, and tuck the end loop into
the tube.
Tie the tucked-in loop with sisel.
Finished! You can tie the inside rings as well so the mat doesn’t
come apart as easily, but I found my bunnies love to tear the center apart, so I
chose not to.
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned
for the next TOYtorial!
Aww thats so cool! Im sure larry would love that…. He likes to get into trouble (go figure) and this is the perfect thing to for him to cause trouble with ![]()
I hope he likes it! It kept mine entertained for hours! ![]()
Hi and welcome to today’s TOYtorial! Today we will be making
a very simple cardboard-tube flower!
You will need:
-Two toilet roll tubes
-Scissors
First, flatten both cardboard tubes. In one, cut slits
approx 1 cm wide, the other, approx 1/3 cm.
Bed the tube with the larger slits into a circle, and tuck
the first loop into the last to hold it together.
Roll the other tube up.
Then stick the rolled tube into the center of the flower.
Finished! I hope you enjoyed this very simple and cute toy.
Please share pictures if you make this, and vote in my response thread if you
like my toys. Stay tuned for more homemade toys!
The flower is too cute! It would be fun to paint with food coloring! Keep the TOYtorials coming, LEL!
Thank you! It would be fun to paint it, if you aren’t lazy like me!
New TOYtorial up soon!
I wanted to let you guys know I found some bunny-safe jute at the dollar tree (everything is $1)! I’m going to crochet some bunny toys right now with it!
LEL, Would It be ok If I did A video Tutorial On the Roll and chew for my YouTube Channel? I would Give full credit to you and leave a link to this tread!
Please let me know ![]()

Feel free! As long as appropriate credit is given, that’s fine with me.
I have subscribed to your youtube channel. ![]()
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyfY09YxwfqkjqqoiFCXXig
And Thank You
I Will Upload It sometime Soon =D
A new TOYtorial should be up soon, I have it all done and the photos are taken, I just need to get it up! ![]()
I missed the hanging flower basket! So cute!
I can’t wait to see what you plan on posting next. How do you come up with all of these?
Glad you like it LBJ!
I usually just find store-bought toys that I am too cheap to buy, then make something similar. ![]()
When are you gonna post again?
I will post a few TOYtorials as soon as possible, I have a few done that I just need to upload. I have been very busy, I just got back from a trip, so thank you for your patience. ![]()
Sorry for being impatient. Your TOYtorials are so cool and creative though.
Thank you! ![]()
Hi everybody, and welcome to today’s TOYtorial! I am very
sorry it has been so very long! To make up for this, I have several TOYtorials
I hope to get up this week. ![]()
Today we will be making: Giant Bunny Pencil!
You will need
-Paper towel roll
-Toilet paper roll
-Scissors
-Sisel string
-Egg carton
-Paper bag
First, cut off one egg cup from your egg carton.
Then punch a large hole in the top of the cup.
Wrap the cup in a large piece of paper bag, and punch out
the hole.
Cut a flat piece from the top or side of the egg carton, and
roll it into a cone shape.
Gently shove it in the hole in the egg cup, and set aside.
Cut a zig-zag patterning in one side of the paper towel
roll.
Gently shove the “tip part of the pencil into this end of the
roll.
For the eraser of the pencil, trim down a toilet paper tube
slightly and cut it lengthwise.
Roll the tube up slightly so it is a bit smaller (in
diameter) and place it in the middle of a large square of paper bag.
Wrap the bag around the tube so it is completely covered.
Shove this into the remaining side of the paper towel roll.
Tuck a bit of sisel string into the join between the eraser
and pencil.
Wrap the string around the join and a bit extra. This is the
metal part on the pencil.
Finished!
Now your bunnies can write their own veggie shopping lists….
But I don’t think that is a good thing. What would your bunnies put on that
list?
If you try this out, please share pics.
Please vote in my
response thread if you like my toys. If
you have any requests for homemade toys, leave them down below, and stay tuned
for the next TOYtorial!
Sorry, double post
These are always SO CUTE!
I’m totally gonna try this if I can find the right things to make it ![]()
I’ll Give A Try =D
That is amazing. As soon as I have the supplies, I am going to make all of these. Love love love them ![]()
Thanks everybody! ![]()
It looks a little complicated (to me. Ha ha ha) But I’ll give it a try! ![]()
There should be a simpler toy up soon! ![]()
Hello everybody and welcome to today’s TOYtorial!
Today we will be making: Owl treat toy!
You will need:
-2 toilet roll tubes, one slightly smaller than the other
-White paper
-Scissors
-Hay and treats to stuff the toy with
-Food coloring (optional)
First, cut four small slits on the end of the smaller toilet roll tube.
Fold the flaps as you would a box.
Stuff the tube with your hay and treats.
In the larger tube, cut out the face of an owl.
Then fold the top of the tube to resemble the owl’s ears. Somehow I didn’t get a picture of this, but you will see it in the next steps.
Wrap a piece of white paper around the smaller tube. at this point you should have two tubes to look like this-
Then simply push the white tube inside of the owl body, with the folded tube-edge facing out.
I chose to paint the eyes and beak of the owl with a little bit of food coloring.
So there you have it- an adorable owl toy.
If you try his out, please share pics.
I hope you enjoyed today’s TOYtorial, please vote in my response thread if you like my toys, and stay tuned for the next TOYtorial!
It’s past midnight here and I’ve read this whole thread! Guess who has lots of cardboard boxes from shifting house lying around????? And a big bale of twine? My destructabunnies are going to love this stuff, thank you so much for going to all the trouble of documenting how to make these.
Thank you and you are welcome! Good luck! ![]()

My second batch of x-balls. The first ones I made out of double-thickness cardboard from shipping boxes, it was really too thick and hard to use. This stuff was perfect.
No pics of the first ones, they were destroyed pretty quickly and there is nothing left!
Good job! Glad the bunnies liked them! ![]()
Dang, I subscribed to this thread, and when I got the email, I was all excited thinking that it was you posting the next DIY toy. Haha.
Thanks LEL! I’m going on vacation soon and I will make these to entertain my buns while we are gone
(my brothers are looking after them) Definitely going to try the pencil!
Posted By LittleBunnyPaws on 9/02/2014 6:56 PM
Dang, I subscribed to this thread, and when I got the email, I was all excited thinking that it was you posting the next DIY toy. Haha.
Ha ha ha! Well, I do have a bit of time off tonight, so I will see if I can whip up something.
Got to get your siggy done too.
MK-Good luck, I hope the bunnies love them! Have a lovely time on holiday! ![]()
Yeah LEL, still waiting on that siggy. Haha, I’m kidding, take your time
I am just super excited to see how it turns out.
I’m making a mountin of toys over here…will post a pic in the picture share when done ![]()
Yay!!!!
I made a roll n’ chew a while ago.. But my dog ate it before I could give it to Midas :/ all my hard work XD
well at least we know these toys are universal???? ![]()
True XD my puppy likes to play with my fragile heart. Have yet to make one for Midas.. I really want to make the hay ring though, because I know he would love that.
All of these toys are amazing…. I will be needing to stock up on supplies for these toys ![]()
Toys for bunnies and DOGS! Ha ha ha!
Thanks everybunny!
XD But he has a weird habit of eating cardboard.. Probably shouldn’t have left it on the floor in my room.. Oops
A little extra fiber can’t hurt….Right? ![]()
So true XD what are you planning on doing for the next toy?
I don’t know, I was thinking something cardboard like the Eiffel tower or the roll n’ chew. Got any requests?
Lilac chewing on a cute toy
(Ironically my cat likes it too!)
Flabebe- Lilac is so cute! Great job on the toy also
LEL- Hm.. I honestly have no ideas XD have you ever seen one of those carrot patch toys? I was thinking of that, but you could just modify the carrot..
Thanks LBP
I love making things myself, so when I found this thread I secretly stalked it until I decided to join BB (Dont tell anyone okay?????)
But I think the effil tower was super cute! Maybe do a few toys based of of landmarks? Like the leaning tower of Pisa? Big Ben? (Oh gosh these sound hard to do! I’m sorry!)
I actually made a carrot patch a while back, before I was doing the TOYtorials. I wish I had photo’d (Is that a word?) it. Turned out super cute, I used woven cornhusk and sisal around the sides. I’ll see if I can make another.
Good job Flabebe!
I was thinking some other landmarks would be cool, thanks for the ideas. I was going to attempt the Sydney opera house too, I will let you guys know how that goes.
Ha ha ha stalker! Do not worry, I was a BB stalker for several YEARS before I showed up. So basically I knew everybody but they had no idea who I was, LOL!
A series of landmark toys! I feel like ine of the buns would be like godzilla or something and just topple down all of the buildings xD Amazing!
And I totally feel like a stalker xD but at least I am not alone!
Oh and halloween will be coming up! Some holloween themed toys would me cute
(Maybe I will try my hand at some???????)
When I gave my bunnies the Effiel tower, they tried to drown it in the water dish. BUNZILLA! Ha ha ha!
I’ll try out some landmarks tomorrow, and some Halloween stuff. ![]()
XD Bunzilla, nice. Any ideas why my bun doesn’t play with most toys?
Bunnies can be lazy. He may just playing with them at night when you are asleep, I know that is what mine do, ha ha ha! ![]()
Yay! I cant wait to see what you come up with
and I know from experience that my bun will put things in her water dish when I am not watching…. lol. She plays ti keep entertaining herself and she also plays with me
sometimes I will hold a toy out for her or roll it toward her and she just knows what to do ![]()
Midas chews on his willow ring.. And that’s pretty much it XD
My bunnies also live to throw things in the water dish.
That is cute how your bun plays with you! Lionel will do that too, with his barbel toy. ![]()
It makes me really happy when she plays with me xD lol. And whenever people say that buns arent exciting/playful or whatever I just invite them over and BAM! They eat those words xP I will have to take a video or something and post it since it is too adorable.
LittleBunnyPaws, I’ve found Puck to be pretty much the same way, although this past week he’s started playing with toys more, so perhaps you just need to give Midas more time to settle in? I’ve found the little monster seems to like the roll ‘n’ chew best, as well as a toilet tube with his pellets inside. Anything that involves food is probably the safest bet
It might be that he’s either; only playing with his toys when you’re not around to entertain him
or he’s not decided which kinds of toys he likes to play with yet. But that’s just my take on it, I could be wrong ![]()
I made some of these for Sir Tainted tonight and he has used all of them already.

Great job Bones! Looks like your bunny enjoyed them!
Hello and welcome to today’s TOYtorial! This tutorial was
made especially for Andi’s (AndHenry) birthday!
Today we are making: Gift toy!
You will need:
-Cardboard
-Paper bag
-Scissors
-Sisel string
First, cut a bunch of identical cardboard squares!
Stack the squares up, and place them on an unfolded paper
bag.
Wrap the squares just as you would a present.
Lastly, tie the sisel string around the present to hold it
together.
Finished! Thank you for following these TOYtorials, please
share if you make them, vote on my response thread, and, above all, wish Andi a
Happy Birthday!
What a fun present toy! You could even alter it to make it into a box and fill it with tasty treats (and coke cans).
Ha ha ha! It’s not the greatest of things, but I needed to whip up something really fast for AH’s birthday…. ![]()
I know this will come as a shock to you Amanda….. BUT, I actually think I can make that one! Ha ha ha ha ha!
I ‘love’ it – thank you!
On a serious note, I am gonna make the effort and make Henry some of the EASY (for me!) toys for Christmas – hopefully he’ll spend the day with us this year??? I’ll just make sure I let him open his presents at 5am (like the hubby) while he is wide awake and interested! Lol!
PS – No more Coke for Henry MissGabbster! Ok, maybe a sip on Christmas day, but I’m not wrapping up a full can for him, I’m sure that last can is still going through his system! Naughty bunny! He he he he he……
Henry may have not got this pressie YET – but I did!!! So happy!!!
I am sure you can make it! Ha ha ha ha!
That sounds so cool to make Henry some presents for Christmas!
Ha ha ha ha! Glad you enjoyed!
I love this thread so many amazing great ideas ! Thank you for sharing these i hope you still post new ones every week !
LEL. it’s 6 months late but finally got sisal string and now having fun finally making those hay rings I’ve had my eyes on. Also made a Pom pom. Thanks for the fun. Not sure if I can figure out anymore how to attach a picture but I’ll try
FAIL FAIL FAIL
Ha ha well I can’t but probably just as well. They don’t look as good as yours
MiniBanders-Thanks! I usually don’t end up doing them every single week because I am busy, but I try to get one up as often as I can. New one should be up today or tommarow.
MegaBunny-So glad to hear from you! So glad you tried them out and enjoyed yourself. Too bad the pic didn’t work, I would have loved to see. Don’t worry, I had made those many, many times before I got them even close to nice-looking. And I bet yours look just fine. Anyways, it doesn’t matter as long as the bunnies enjoy them! ![]()
Hello and welcome to today’s TOYtorial! Sorry for the lack of
posts here, life gets crazy sometimes… Anyways, it is nearing Halloween, so
this week I aim to post at least three Halloween- themed toys. The first of
which is today’s….
Today we will be making:
Witches broom!
You will need:
-Safe twig (Apple, pear, etc. Please check that our wood is
safe for your bunny.)
-Sisal string
-Scissors
-Material for the broom bristles. I used some alfalfa hay
because it is more stiff, but you could use regular hay or something like raffia
or corn husk if you wanted.
Bunch up your hay (or whatever material you are using) so
that it is all held together.
Cut the hay off strait near the top of the bunch.
Insert the twig into the top of the bunch.
Use the sisal to bind the hay tightly to the stick.
Wrap the sisal around the bunch a few more times, and then
tie it off.
Lastly just trim up the ends of the broom so it looks like a
witch broom.
Finished! A cute little chew-safe Halloween toy!
I hope you enjoyed this TOYtorial. If you make this, please
post pictures, and stay tuned for the next TOYtorial! ![]()
Dear LEL, thank you so much for the toytorials!! I’ve been looking for these projects for too long! Earlier I tried the first toy and I failed big time (I’m not good with crafts) so I simplified the ball just so.

Chito seems to like it after I stuffed some treats into the small holes I poked in it (although I think the ball is kinda too big for my small bun tee hee will make another!). Thank you! Looking forward for other projects! Wheee!
Hi beebun! Glad you have been enjoying these!
Your toy looks good, and I am glad Chito enjoyed it. Sometimes they actually enjoy the simpler things more!

I just now noticed all these tutorials and they are awesome! I made the first roll and chew one and Mr Binks loved it! Started playing with them immediately
if I could upload pics or video from my phone I would have posted them
Glad you are enjoying these and that Mr. Binks liked his toy! ![]()
I just happen to click on this tonight, I must say I am SUPER EXCITED to try some of these
hopefully I’ll get enough time this weekend! I’ll post photos if I do ![]()
Aren’t these awesome? My guy loves the hay rings. Gotta make more of them
Callie-Thanks! I hope you and your bunnies enjoy these.
MB-Always nice to hear from you! Glad Gus likes the hay rings!
love these ideas! but where do you find that special string?
Ha Are you ready for this??? Sisal string is that brown, awful twine we all had as kids sitting in the junk drawer (or was that just me?) Go to Lowes and they’ll direct you to it. They’ll know what it is.
YES! MB, that stuff is always floating around! Unless you need it of course, then it is nowhere to be found…..
I found my sisal in the gardening section of a craft store ![]()
I thought someone said they’d gotten it at floral sections or something and went to Micheal’s one time to look for it and was told in NO uncertain terms that the woman had been working there for 23 years and had NEVER heard of sisal string. Sheesh!!
I just bought some this week, first went to Michaels and they don’t sell it. Went to Home Depot and they had a ton of it! And it’s all natural and untreated. I had the brilliant idea to string together wood chews and hang inside Mr Binks play area…it was a good idea except he chewed the string and down it came not five minutes later. He was proud of himself though and binkied all around after his destruction. He’s too cute to get mad at! I’m excited to try out the other toys that needed sisal string. I’ve only made the cardboard balls and he still plays with them, he loves them!
Anyone know any other bunny safe alturnatives to sisal string, I’m having trouble getting some here and I’d like to make some toys for Riley.
Sorry double post
Apparently there is a web site out there w/ homemade bunny toys using some other material which I think I found in the dollar store, but I can’t remember what it is and I can’t find the discussion. Hopefully someone out there will chime in. We’ll find you something
Oh, here it is Hope this helps http://www.auniqueidea.com/RABBITTOYS.html
Hey LEL, these are awesome! Thanks for sharing!
A Flying Brick- You can also use something like corn husk or raffia. That list that MB posted is awesome.
Iws84- Thanks and you are welcome!
Where do you buy your sisal string LEL? I can never find any! And it’s a pain to order it online, and you can never tell for sure if it has been treated or not from over the computer. ![]()
I bought mine at Michael’s. I bought my current roll a while ago, but if I remember right, it is actually ‘jute’ not sisal but it looks the same and is safe too.
Only strings I can get here are normal brown string (cotton twine, I think) and some coloured plastic ones. I don’t think any of them are bunny safe :/
I’ve seen Raffia in the Dollar Store. Can’t vouch for whether it’s treated or anything but mine is mostly in it for the hay But I’ve never tried the raffia
Jute? I’ll look around, thanks LEL! ![]()
Hey everyone! It’s been too long-but not to fear, here is a new toy for you all!
With the weather cooling down, one of the best things about this season is the hot chocolate. Who says bunnies can’t enjoy it too!
You will need:
-Scissors
-Pencil
-Toilet roll tube
-Cardboard
-White paper (optional)
-Large rabbit food pellets (optional)
-Hay and treats (optional)
Firstly, cut your tube to a length proportional to a coffee mug. Flatten out the cut-off strip of toilet roll.
Cut a “C” shape with two extra bits on the ends for the mug handle.
Cut two slits in the side of the mug, and push the handle in. The extra two little flaps should keep it in place.
Trace the bottom of the tube twice onto some card, and cut out the circles.
Decide which side of the mug you want to be the bottom, then push a circle into the bottom of the tube.
Flip it over and fill with hay and treats if you want.
Push the remaining circle into the top, a bit farther down so it looks like the level of the hot chocolate.
Lastly to add a bit more life, I wrapped two large rabbit pellets in a bit of white paper and used them as marshmallows. This is, however, completely optional.
Then you are done!
I hope you enjoyed this TOYtorial! If you make this toy, please share piccies. Request any toys you want below, and stay tuned for more holiday toys. Hoppy Holidays! ![]()
Totally going to try that LEL!
The roll and chew was a fail but win! You dont need to circle with 4 cuts. I tried that way but I couldent, But try to fit the ones with 1 cut together, They look the same but a different way to do it. Great thread!
