A House Rabbit Magazine!!!

There is an awesome magazine called Rabbits USA! It’s a house rabbit-oriented magazine, amazingly. I just decided to create this thread because I never heard anyone here mention it or anything, so I wondered if any of you have ever heard of it.

I discovered Rabbits USA by mistake, this was two years ago. I was at the Tractor Supply Co., getting bunny food.(we use Purina Rabbit Chow) I otherwise have no luck in that store. The majority of rabbit supplies are for breeders, and therefore I find no use for any of the stuff there for my house bunnies.

It was sitting on a rack, where other “farm animal” magazines were. I was wary at first, due to my bad experiences with rabbit books or magazines in Tractor Supply or otherwise. 

Once my husband brought me home a book called Raising Rabbits. This was during the first year of my life with bunnies. I started to read, and in the first chapter it described how to kill, skin, and cook the rabbit you have raised. With pictures! My hubbie apologized, he had no idea that it was one of those types of books.

One of my non-house rabbit friends also got me a subscription to a rabbit farming type magazine as a kind gesture for Christmas. It was much like the Raising Rabbits book, and it came every month for an entire year. I tried to discreetly cancel the subscription, but my attempts did not work, unfortunately. 

So, you see, my experiences with rabbit information in the form of a book have been downright terrible. 

Anyways, I finally made up my mind and bought it – and I’m so glad I did!! Sadly, Rabbits USA is a yearly magazine, so the patience I learn with owning rabbits pays off. 

Not only is there tons of info…there’s contests, as well as bunny-themed games….AND an up-to-date vet directory that covers all 50 states!

This can be found at a local tractor supply-type store, or online at the website http://www.smallanimalchannel.com. Unfortunately for those who don’t live in the states, it may be harder to find. Perhaps you could also order it online?

Yep, there are different pet USA magazines. I think they are an annual thing?

I get this mag every year. BB usually has them in stock.

It’s a cute mag. I mostly buy it for the pics, honestly, as I find a lot of the info is pretty basic. But it’s nice to have a rabbit mag, even if it’s only once a year. The only negative thing I have to say about it is, there are often ads in the magazine that sell rabbit breeding/farming type cages. Those tiny, stackable stainless steel things that are totally unsuitable.

There is some cute info in them as well, like games to play with your bunnies, etc.

Actually, thanks for reminding me, as I usually start harassing my local news stand in February, since that’s when they usually get it in. New one soon!

Yeah, I noticed that as well. But as a house bunny owner who knows that those aren’t good for buns because of experience and from what I know, those won’t bother me. I think newer rabbit owners may have a greater chance of being confused.

I love the pictures too.  The articles are basic yes.  The magazine is expensive and only comes out once a year.  

House Rabbit Society has something out every month if you become a member or something.  I think it is a oh  bigger than a pamphlet smaller than a magazine and about what the society is doing.  

You would have to look into it I forget exactly what it is about.

LPT, I had to laugh at “It’s a cute mag. I mostly buy it for the pics,”
I have 2 older brothers, and they used to say to my mother, when they bought a magazine with pics of Bunnies (P***boy), that “they bought it for the articles.”

I like that magazine and have that issue. I looked to see if the BB store had the 2014 issue yet but didn’t see it. I plan on getting this years. The cover has a lionhead rabbit on it and its so cute.
