I recently placed an order for my new baby buns food and hay at the store here and I also bought the Oxbow banana chips and barely biscuits. Should I wait until she’s 12 weeks to offer her one, or would it be alright to offer her just one a day at 9 weeks?

I’m not entirely sure, so someone else will probably be more helpful, but if it were me, I’d wait a bit.
Her tummy will be sensitive at the moment, and there’s probably lots of changes going on in her diet at the moment anyway. So I’d give it a few weeks.
Also, just thought I’d mention that a treat a day is quite a lot of treats.

Yup. It’s hard to wait, but you really should

              Ok, will wait then. Thanks!

The barley biscuits are a favorite here! I don’t think I’ve had the banana chips before tho. The barley cookies are pretty big, so you might try breaking or cutting them into halves or quarters and just offering a little bit at first. I think a small portion should be okay to give now. Obviously, make sure the bunny can handle it before giving more.

Yeah, when I said “a treat a day” I didn’t mean a whole big biscuit, but a piece. lol I’ll probably still wait a little, though. The breeder was feeding her timothy hay and pellets and I’m in the process of transitioning her to alfalfa. After that’s done I’ll try a small piece of biscuit. She seems to be handling all her new changes great though.

If she is already eating timothy I wonder if you need to transition her to alfalfa, only to transition her back to timothy once she is bigger….hopefully other members can weigh in here. Unlimited pellets and timothy, since she is already used to that might be fine?

Yes, she doesn’t have to be transitioned to alfalfa pellets, you can keep her in the timothy ones. For the hay, you can give a handful of alfalfa hay along with the timothy if you want.

I’ve been mixing timothy and alfalfa together and will just continue to do so until she’s 6 months old because she seems to like the mix. I was thinking about just giving her timothy pellets, but I had assumed the breeder would be using alfalfa and bought a bag of the Oxbow Young Rabbit that would go to waste. :/ If it’s bad for her to change to the Young Rabbit I can go buy the adult formula, I’d just rather not waste a whole bag if I don’t have to. Is it ok to use?

She also doesn’t seem to be eating much pellets at all, so I’m a little concerned with that. She’s back at her basket eating hay every couple minutes but I’ve only seen her nibble on her pellets once or twice since she’s been here, and when I gave her fresh pellets this morning the ones from yesterday were barely touched. I was hoping the alfalfa might be more tasty and she’d eat more, but it doesn’t seem so. Is this normal?

Be HAPPY she’s leaving pellets. The amount of pellets they need in the overall diet is very small, compared to everything else. Hay should be at least 80% of her diet. You’re making me more and more jealous with every post!! I’m sorry, I must steal your rabbit now.

                            AGREED!!!
Go ahead and keep mixing the pellets. Those are expensive and I think it’s smart to just keep mixing till you get low and can put her right onto timothy. But enjoy having such an eager hay eater!!

omg haha I guess I should be thankful not worried! I guess she knows what she needs better than I do.

I decided to give her a quarter of a barely biscuit because I couldn’t resist. She snatched it right from my hand and it disappeared in a matter of seconds! I think we have another fan of these cookies. lol

So who’s stealing her? Manic or MB? (Just so I know which house I need to go to so I can steal her). Keep a close eye on her Katie! Ha ha ha….

LOL I feel like I’ve gotten really lucky so far with her. She’s actually *sort of* using her litter box already, and she allowed me to sleep until about 6am, which is later than I expected. haha

She really is adorable. Just a head’s up, don’t be surprised in a month or so if her litter habits start going haywire. Once those hormones kick in, it’s more than likely the territory marking will begin. Just keep in mind, once she’s spayed, she’ll have those good habits again.

Not that it really matters, since I’m stealing her. I shall covet her in a secret unknown location.

LOL I just hope she manages to stay so sweet and out going into adulthood.
And I’m fully expecting the huge messes that come with hormones (not that I’m looking forward to it!) lol.
