So I took in my bun a couple months ago because he was pooing these large wet clumps every morning and then regular poos at night. I was concerned and took him to the vet. Vet said my schedule change was affecting when he was doing his “night droppings”. Right now my schedule is so crazy with school and work, and he is leaving those wet poos on the bottom of his cage again. I even had to clean his bum off this morning

Has anyone else had to deal with this? I feel so bad that my life is so hectic right now and its obviously affecting him as well. I try to stick to a little bit of a schedule but I come and go so frequently its crazy. Please help!

Cecotrophs (or cecals or “night droppings”) can occur at any time of the day or night. I’m not sure that a schedule change would cause this.

What is your bun’s daily diet?
          Type/quantity of pellets
          Type/quantity of veggies
          Type/quantity of hay
          And any treats?

Rabbits can produce cecotropes any time of day not just night. It varies from rabbit to rabbit so you don’t need to be concerned about when it happens. I’m not sure why they are called night droppings but it doesn’t have anything to do with the time of day that they produce them.

People here are probably tired of hearing about my Gracie’s tummy troubles, but sounds like you may be getting into what we scientifically call “poopy butt”. Eager to hear the answer to diet questions, as you will probably be looking at an increase in hay and less of everything else. People here, as well as my vet, have been wonderful in Gracie’s recovery. Let us know about the diet and maybe you can get a hold on this problem. I understand!
