Sophie has started digging in the litterbox. Usually nbd, some halfhearted scratching, give them a craisin and it’s over. She’s completely exposing half of her 15×30 box and flinging it everywhere, multiple times per day. (I come home at noon to let the puppies out and clean up, it’s a mess again at night.)

She digs if the box is dirty, and digs if it’s been freshly cleaned.

She digs before and after food or treats.

She digs whether or not she was interested in and received pets.

She digs with or without her morning/evening exercise. (zoomies in the back of the house til she flops.)

She digs if I provide her a separate, special diggy box all her own. With craisins buried in it to entice digging, even.

I’ve put some spare nic grids in the box and covered them with wood pellets to discourage her this morning, but if she’s determined enough she could get them out. Or Liam will, the jerk. Have I missed anything to try?

Thanks for reading. Have some Christmas bunnies.

Eek… Bumpy isn’t a digger, but he does like digging into a phone book, and recently discovered that he likes to dig a little at his small microfiber towel that he likes to sit on which happens to be about 6inches from his litter box.

I would try tossing a phone book somewhere nearby (though the paper isn’t exactly neat either), maybe you can toss one in another box to help contain the mess. I hope someone else can help here!
