I have been using yesterday’s new cat litter, and it works great, but its pricey. Especially, now having two bunnies I wanted to buy something a little cheaper. I came across pine wood stall pellets at tractor supply, and the price seems so great. Lets me put aside money for vet bills in the future.

I was just wondering if these products are safe?

          short answer: yes

I have not used them myself, but have read several threads regarding litter choices and it’s always been answered yes. Something to do with the way it’s processed that removes what would be harmful to buns. I expect someone with more knowledge will respond soon!

Yes, pelleted pine is safe, as long as there are no accelerants added.

Shavings release the phenols that can lead to liver damage with prolonged use. But when it is pelleted, those dangerous phenols are not an issue.

I have used woodstove pellets (WSP) for years now. I love that I can buy several bags (enough for an entire year!) for what I would otherwise be spending on just 1-2 bags of the expensive stuff.

In my area, WSP are seasonal tho (only available in the winter), so I buy enough for the whole year all at once so I don’t need to worry about running out.
