My friend just told me that she thinks her rabbit is dying. It is a family pet that they keep in a cage all day but still take decent care of him. She told me it’s eyes are crusted over and it can’t open them, he has not eaten anything and has not moved from the corner. It has not been fixed that they know of (I think its from a pet store) and the gender is unknown. It’s about six years old. I feel horrible that it is sick and I can not take it to the vet myself but is there anything they can do? Is it most likely fatal?

Without vet treatment the little rabbit will most likely die, slowly and very painfully… It is probably suffering horribly at the moment in the abscence of any treatment or care.

Crusting over of the eyes could be caused by anything from calici or myxo virus, mite infestation or a general eye infection or even dental problems. You could try gently try to loosen the crusting with some warm water compresses…. The hunching could be caused by the pain from the eyes or gastric problems caused by the pain from the eye’s… Can you encourage them to take the rabbit to a vet or atleast try to clean it’s eyes.

If you do handle the bunny make sure you completely decontaminate before handling your own pets… Change clothes and wash them and your self as many viral and bacterial infections are highly contagious.

They should do the humane thing and get the poor rabbit to a vet….have you asked them if they are?

I agree, he needs to see a vet. At the very least, someone needs to make his passing more comfortable

                    I agree with everyone else.

He either needs medical treatment or to be humanely euthanized. Allowing him to suffer until he dies is not really an option.

                    (( Vibes to your friend’s bunny ))
