I rescued a bunny a couple of months ago. It’s the first bunny I’ve ever taken care of but she’s been a joy.

Just recently, she started making these noises that I’ve never heard before. She may have made these noises before but she’s always been in a very busy part of our house and we just recently moved her to another room that’s a little quieter. So, she might have made these noises before but I’ve just never heard them before. I can see her sides move when she makes the sounds.

She is eating and playing like she normally does. She doesn’t seem any different. I’m still worried about her though. She also had an abscess in her mouth when we first got her but she has been treated and been on medicine and it has healed. I’m not sure if that could be bothering her again.

I found this video and it sounds almost exactly like the sound she makes. (This isn’t Bunny but I just used this so you sort of know what it sounds like.) Also, I can see her sides move when she makes the sounds.

Please, if you could let me know if she is just happy or something is bothering her.

Thanks for your help in advance

I honestly couldn’t hear that video. Some rabbits are just more vocal than others and it’s nothing to worry about.

It’s really faint sounding, but I have heard Bumpy make that same sound when he was really happy. Usually when he’d been given a piece of banana. I definitely wouldn’t worry. OH and if you ever notice her back twitching (my husband calls it popcorning) while she’s eating something especially yummy, don’t worry!

It sounds like Bam does when he’s eating fruit, f ex orange or kiwi or some other juicy piece of deliciousness. I’ve told him it’s bad table-manners, to chomp and munch audibly like that. He’s just stared at me blankly in response. Pretty rude!

I didn’t notice this sound until recently myself, probably because Bam couldn’t have fruit before due to sensitive stomach. Perhaps it isn’t chomping, perhaps it’s a sound of enjoyment.

Edit: I’ve listened to it again, I’d say it’s a happy sound. Bam can sometimes make it louder, almost a bird-like chirping.

Unhappy sounds are f ex growling. That’s like a small angry dog growling.

Bad sounds are coughing and wheezing. And when a bunny is terrified, it screams like the world is coming to an end, there’s no mistaking that sound for anything else.
