hey everybody! so… mango and i visited my sisters house and he lived in one of their inside parrot cages and now… i almost feel quilty putting him back in his 2/1/1m cage at home(even though he runs free 4-6 hours a day. so i wana build  a condo for him(ill try for fun and have it done if i screw up). so my questions are: which wood is safest to use, can i varnish the wood and can i tile the platforms(he is use to tiles) or which flooring should i use? (gona start with 2 levels- one for litter and play and one for eat and sleep)

im buying supplies tomorrow… so any advice will be apreciated!

And how do I prevent him from chewing the wood(just saw a cupboard that I can just change up a little by cutting out sides and doors and putting wirering in-but don’t know what type of wood it is and its a secondhand store… So they don’t know either…)

            Most people just use plywood.

I don’t think you can stop them from chewing wood, lol. I’ve never been able to. You’d have to make it so they can’t get to the things they want to chew, that’s the only way.

My enclosure is mainly metal, dog crate and xpen, but I made an upper level shelf and ramp from pine. I was super concerned about him chewing the wood so I made a point to overlap “hardware cloth” (sometimes called rat-wire) around those areas he could access, as well as wrapped the ramp with it. HUGE waste of time on my part, I can’t get him to chew wood at all. He did like willow twigs, but he eats them like hay… so still not working those front teeth.

-If- you decide to re-purpose anything that isn’t raw wood, I would do something like what I mentioned above, to prevent accidental ingestion. Or you could get lucky (unlucky?) and he not be a big chewer. Still much better to be safe than sorry.

-must remember to check Bumpy’s teeth today-
