We have used ExquisiCat Naturals Fragrance Free Paper Cat Litter for our bun Dexter for quite some time and had no issues. A recent trip to our local no-kill shelter’s bunny house has use wondering if we can SAFELY use cedar wood burning stove pellets as litter as they do. I have read on this site and several others that cedar shavings are bad (toxic for bunny’s liver), but they all say wood burning stove pellets are ok to use. There is no mention of the type of wood burning stove pellets as in pine, cedar, etc. The very last thing we want to do is put our bun at a health risk but if the cedar pellets are ok then it would be a much cheaper option. If you have any info on the difference and if pellets are ok then I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Cedar Wood Stove pellets are extruded so that all the phenols are removed during the manufacturing which is not the case with the cedar shavings.

I think that the wood stove pellets I’ve seen are made from pine but there may be some from cedar as well.
