So, after several months, Cincinnati has finally taken to doing a few questionable things.

He now eats entire chew sticks, especially from one company (Knee Deep Farms).  Is this dangerous?  I took the last one (or what was left of it) away.  He doesn’t just gnaw or strip the bark.  He eats all of it.  It’s like he’s part beaver!

He has also started to eat any kind of fabric – rugs, my clothes, etc.  I don’t know why.  He didn’t used to, and I don’t want him getting sick from eating inedible fibre!  He tries to suck in strips of cloth and rug tufts like spaghetti.   He always has access to hay.

Why would he suddenly start doing this?  He is a neutered, adult male, who was neutered and had reached adulthood long before I got him.  Nothing has changed in the household.

        Any ideas?

Has he had his teeth checked recently? Some bunnies become big chewers when they have dental issues.

What are the sticks? Like willow sticks? It’s perfectly normal for buns to eat the whole thing. Fabric though, that isn’t good. He could just be bored and feeling the need to destroy things. Or like Tanlover suggested, there could be a medical problem.

Sometimes they seem to want to fill up on extra fibre. The wooden chew-sticks are fine, but fabric may cause blockage. Maybe he’d like some coarser hay? Rabbits tend to like coarser hay, Guinea pigs finer. Some rabbits even eat straw. Don’t give him access to fabric that has long fibres. Fleece is the best option if he needs blankets f ex.

He may be bored, have a little gas, some minor dental issue or sth else.

Hmmm… Well, he has to wait a week or so to go to the vet while I sort out my transportation issues (long story). His teeth were last checked at the HS mid-July, when he was neutered. I will have them check his teeth at his checkup.

His hay is pretty coarse. It is timothy. The chew sticks are 1/4″ apple sticks, about 6″ long. He can demolish one in under two hours.

I guess I will have to see what the vet says! I’ll post back when I know. Thanks for the help.

Both my rabbits are huge chewers. However, Moogle actually tries to ingest carpet fiber, so I have to be watchful at all times. He gets very upset when I pull them out of his mouth. We are down to two areas where he still digs on carpet, so it’s getting better. If all goes well we will be moving into industrial apartments that are mostly concrete floors… The things we do for bunnies lol
