I brought home my rabbit, Tibbs, about 3 weeks ago now. We went to the vet and got some medicine and some dental work, but a clean bill of health. I was also informed that he was probably about 5 years old.

He has very good litter habits, only pooping on the floor when he is too lazy to run to the litter boxes placed all over the house. Never had a pee on the floor. Recently, as I am doing my homework on the bed, he will hop up for some snuggles. The moment I stop petting him, he digs in the blankets and then pees all over my duvet.

Is this a workable trait? He is a little older, so I would prefer not neutering him; due to the harshness of anaesthetic on an older rabbit’s body! Any answer as to why he is doing this?

I am not sure other then that i think it is from hormones, in other words i think neutering is the only way to fix that. Does he ever do circles around your feet?

            Congrats on your new rabbit!

Even a spayed or neutered rabbit will pee on the bed – it’s because it smells the most of their humans. Sometimes they will stop doing this after awhile but it is best to try to keep them off the bed – that seems to be the only way to fix it is to not have them up there. I did have a neutered mail who would pee on my bed and then he eventually stopped – I couldn’t keep him off the bed.

He probably would be fine to neuter and if you did consider that then you would want to do bloodwork first to make sure it’s okay. I’ve known of many middle aged rabbits getting spayed and neutered with no problems as long as it’s done by a rabbit savvy vet. My rabbit Bobby who is about 5 goes under anesthesia every 3 months for dental trims. So I imagine if Tibbs had dental work they put him under anesthesia then.

Yes unfortunately bunnies and beds don’t mix very well regardless of being altered. Best to find a different cuddle spot But YaY on a successful neuter!

Although I’ve seen immediate results from neutering as far as dropping poops all over, I wonder if a bit more time will calm him down. Mine used to pee on the dog’s bed every chance he got but has been better now with time. Hope yours comes around. I think that would be so awesome to share a bed with a rabbit (but my other half wouldn’t agree…a dog is enough)
