i used to use just cedar shavings for Bentley’s litter box, but about 6 or 7 months ago i switched over to yesterdays news and it works fine,. but i was always concerned about it hurting bentleys feet so i would always sprinkle a layer of cedar shavings over top of the pellets so he wouldnt get sore hocks. is there anything else i can sprinkle over the yesterdays news so it wont hurt his feet? besides carefresh because its like 35 $ where i live and the yesterdays news is already 25$, something like tissue or toilet paper, because i know cedar shavings are bad. i tried newspaper too but it would stick to the litterbox and make a big huge mess.

I put hay on top of my WSP litter.

It won’t hurt his feet just to use the Pelleted bedding in the litter box. It isn’t like he’s on it all the time. My Guinea Pig is mostly on that but with care fresh in the hidey house and she’s fine. My kids use the pellet bedding with hay on it, though, like MD. I use horse pellet bedding, which is, I think, cheaper than Y. News, but pretty darn heavy if you have a large litter box for a large bunny

I wouldn’t use cedar shavings at all they can cause respiratory problems because of the strong oils. I used yesterdays news topped with hay and never had a problem. http://rabbit.org/the-dangers-of-softwood-shavings/

If you must you shavings, use Aspen. No pine or cedar.

As previous posters have mentioned, cedar is not a good choice due to the phenols it contains, which can be harmful for your rabbit. I use something similar to Yesterday’s News, can’t remember exactly what it’s called… and I just sprinkle some Care Fresh on top to make it more comfy for them
