        Hi!

I just wanted to update everyone on the 2 craigs list bunnies I was trying to possibly adopt.

In the first email, I asked if they were spayed, how much adoption fee was, and if they had  shots. (My mistake)

The lady emailed me back and said they were a male & female pair who she adopted from a woman who told her they had up-to-date shots and they were fixed. She said they have never bred so they are definatly fixed.

I emailed back a few days later telling her USA bunnies dont get shots.

She emailed back saying that she has never had them get shots in her care, and she wonders what in the world this lady was talking about

         I emailed back the following::

I really fell in love with the 2 rabbits but there’s a lot I still need to know before I consider adopting them further. Please answer these with complete honesty as what ever the answer is I am almost certain I will be able to deal with them.

        1. How are there personalities toward each other, how well are they bonded? Have they ever fought? Have they lived together as long as you’ve had them?

        2. What are there personalities towards humans ? Mellow, aggressive, dominant, friendly, playful , scared?

        3. How old are they? Have they had health problems since you owned them?

        4. What are their names?

I also might not be able to adopt the rabbits until mid February and possibility into early march at the latest. I’d really appreciate if you would hold them as I am truly in love with them!
Please send more pictures of them! If you have a iPhone, iPhone pictures will due! Please reply with pictures and any information possible.

After discovering the website for adopting rabbits all over the USA, Rescueme. org, I found 2 8 month old “bonded” male bunnies. I emailed the foster mom asking if they were fixed, what their personalities were  like, etc. She replied telling me she wasn’t sure if they were neutered and told me they had more of average personalities. I replied telling her she could probably tell if they were fixed by taking a look “down there.”

Neither have replied. I emailed them back about 20 or more minutes ago.

adopting can take a while, but it’s worth it. I know I initially filled an application out, then waited and waited…emailed. turned out she had gone on vacation and had opened my email but forgot to respond…not a big deal. then we had a phone interview, then I had to get the rabbit supplies (like ex pen, litter box, hay etc. she also gave me the pellets and hay and treats she had, my guy was young and still on alfalfa hay) and then we had the family meet him and other rabbits in the foster home…she also offered me to see other rabbits in other foster homes but I knew I wanted Lucky. I emailed the end of July, and got him early September…so yeah, be patient!

Glad to see you BunnyRabbitMania! You are doing the right thing by asking questions. I would be wary if their answers are not to your satisfaction. It looks like you are on the right track though. As per the second set of bunnies, if she is fostering for a rescue, then the rescue should be able to provide her with that info. Being that they are young, the rescue should know if they are neutered or not since they would likely want them neutered before adoption and they probably were the ones paying for the neutering. Did she say who the rescue group was?

Hi BRM (sorry for the late reply – I logged on early this morning and then got distracted (it’s afternoon now in Oz) cause my son was trying to get a flight out of the ‘freezing’ US, ha hah! Anyhow…. I reckon you’ve learnt a lot from us BBer’s recently (you should be giving us advice soon) in relation to getting your new bunnies. I hope you don’t mind, but I want to change the subject a little, and use puppies as an example (only cause this is ‘my’ experience that I want to share with you). As mentioned above, if you can’t take the bunnies in till mid Feb, maybe March, asking someone to hold them till then could be a big ask? I say this cause (having puppies), twice I was asked to hold a pup and sucker me (lol) did, and it was sooo much more heart wrenching to let them go. Another time, I advertised a week to early and I had parents paying deposits and kids crying cause they couldn’t take their new baby home (I ‘never’ made that mistake again!). And not that I ‘ever’ did this, but a friend paid a deposit and on pickup 2 weeks later the seller resold the day after as the new purchaser took it there and then? Huh? That was years ago, and I’m still horrified at the thought that someone could do that? And worse still – once the decision is made to sell, they usually want it gone ASAP? and will pass it off to ‘whoever for whatever’. So if you choose to buy on C/L, maybe window shop (just as much fun) till the time gets a little closer to when you can bring them home (saves heartbreak). Be sure to take your parent/s with you (besides security – sorry I’m super paranoid, I still do it with my grown up kids, gotta laugh at me), cause regardless of what you get told by the seller online, if it doesn’t feel right while at/in their home, your parent will pick up on your discomfort, and can say “we’re gonna go for a coffee/coke and a chat”, and get you out of an otherwise awkward situation with no harm done to anyone. (my kids hate when I say, “wait, I’m coming” ha hah – but love me when I get them out of a bad deal politely).
If you decide to get your buns from a shelter (& I am in NO way experienced in adoption – I’m not even allowed to have a bunny where I live, doh! naughty me!). But from everything I have read along with you – as you may have to wait from when you first apply, forget the window shopping (lol) and indulge yourself in bunnies!!!!!!!

I’m glad you decided to return to the BB forums. I felt so bad about your feeling that we were judging you and trying to lecture you. I think you’re very clever to ask the questions you’ve asked. I hope they get back to you. Best of luck!

I am also glad you are back. Its good you asked the questions you have. I don’t want to sound corny but you will get  the rabbit or rabbits that are ment to be for you. It will work itself out. Hopefully you will hear something soon. Keep us updated.

Todays update: Craigs List sellers haven’t replied. Other foster mom has with loads of pictures and info. She might not be able to hold them for so long, but im just hoping no one takes my boys! I have almost decided no to c/l sellers because they don’t seem to be very motivated to talk to me.

Most people on CL are trying to get rid of animals quickly, so such a long delay is probably why they are not responding much. The foster sounds good.
