        Hi everyone,

Was hoping to ask a few things about my rabbit Dandelion who was spayed yesterday. She didn’t eat, poop or drink anything for nearly 24 hours. She was also VERY lethargic (hunched, tooth grinding). She had metacam pain relief. I took her to the vets and they gave her the following drugs: emeprid, torbugesic and ranitidine. They also gave me oxbow critical care to syringe feed. her gut is working again, we have poops (yay). However they are soft and a bit ‘stringy’. Is this the critical care?

She has started to eat a bit of kale and had a little nibble on a carrot. When should I stop giving the critical care and leave her to eat for herself? Does she need to be eating what she was before the spay?

Finally, as she has been feeling so rubbish I kept her bonded mate away. When is it safe to re-introduce them?

        Thanks in advance guys!!

It sounds like she is finally on her way to recovery if she is eating on her own – I would let her eat what she wants to eat at this point. If her appetite continues then you will probably be fine to stop the critical care (but I would say call and confer with the vet on this as well).

The poops are probably a result of the meds (pain and anesthesia) and that is normal.

As for the mate she may recover quicker if they are together – just see how he reacts to her and vice versa – it’s really your call on this as you know them best but always try if they are bonded as it can help with healing.
