I’ve been having so much fun with Alfie (Dwarf), I’m looking into getting him a Playmate. I’m just wondering if two male un-neutered rabbits could spend floor time together (while under supervision), but live in seperate cages?  Thanks, -Sam

No, that is an extremely bad idea. Two unneutered rabbits should never be exposed to one another.

            I agree with Sue.

I would suggest waiting until your boy is neutered and looking into bunny dating as a way to find a compatible companion.

At the very least – Poop Wars like there’s no tomorrow!

Worst case scenario – Injury due to fighting.

Putting two unneutered males together is just a bad idea all around. Their hormones will be raging and they will desperately want to defend their territory from the other bunny.

I can’t find any rabbit savvy vets near my area  I will just stick with Alfie as a single bunny.

Actually, the WORST case scenario is death due to fighting. I’m sure you’d break it up before then but you shouldn’t risk it.

If neutering is out of the question, then yes, you will have to have a single rabbit. Have you tried looking at the house rabbit society to find a vet? Or asking a shelter to recommend one?

Goodness, Ican only agree. When two male bunnies fight it’s no picnic. Death is of course worst case scenario, but injuries not immediately deadly are bad enough – a destroyed eye, genitals severed, sores that become abcesses –

The last time I tried to put my two very neutered boys togeather, one of them bit me so I still have no sensation in half of my left thumb. He wouldn’t let go, another person had to prise him off. He’d turned into a long-eared mini pitbull, my otherwise placid and intensely sweet little Bam. I’m so glad I was bit and not the intended victim.

                    Just sayin’.

You can keep 2 intact males in the house, however it will likely prompt spraying, and you could never let them play together.

Have you shared your general region? Has anyone here been helping you try to locate a vet? I know Roberta and some others have a knack for researching vets.

The big concern isn’t neutering (since this isn’t medically necessary for a male rabbit) but in the case of illness. What are your options if your rabbit needs vet treatment?

Well, yes, death would be the absolute worst case scenario. When I said injury, I was meaning stuff like this. I’d say they are pretty bad. Yikes!

I agree with Beka, it’s important to find a good vet anyway in case he’s poorly.

I have a vet in my town (a great vet) for needs with animal care, but I’ve looked and it seems they don’t specialize in the fixing of rabbits unfortunately . But yeah, I will be sure to check in with Roberta. Thank you Beka, and thank you everyone. These answers were very helpful to me .
